Voice to Text keeps repeating voice-to-text keeps repeating sentences

Hey @Beckett727,

So you're having trouble with the voice typing feature repeating phrases? (repeating phrases? sorry I had to!)

Have you noticed a pattern for when it repeats? On/off WiFi, when tapping the microphone button to pause speech input, etc?

If I'm not mistaken, this functionality is provided by the "Google voice typing" component of the Google app. I've seen some users report this problem appearing after that app was updated; it might be worth a shot to go to Settings > Apps > Google and look for an option to Uninstall updates to see if that has any effect.

I had not noticed any patterns, so I did and uninstall of the Google app updates as you suggested and it worked! Thank you this was driving me mad. and that's not a very long drive!

I am having this exact problem, and I can describe it more precisely.

When you use Google Voice Input, it spends some time crunching through the different possibilities of what you said. It picks the most likely one, but for strings it isn't sure about, you can short-press on them and get a drop-down menu with all of the possibilities.

This bug breaks it so that all of those possibilities are inserted directly into the final output string. For instance: I am about to use Voice Input to write a single comma (,):

Comma, Kama come comet

All I did was press the microphone button, say "Comma", and then press the 'x' to go back to my ordinary keyboard. Ordinarily, it would write and underline "Comma" and if I short-pressed it I would get a dropdown with "," and "Kama" and "come" and "Comet" to select from. Instead, it simply writes all of them. I want to reiterate: I only said "Comma" once.

Here is another example. The input is: "This is a purposefully convoluted sentence [comma] which would ordinarily have several different underlined portions with suggested alternatives [comma] but in this case [comma] all of those alternatives are placed in the textstream [period]". I will say it in four chunks, and each chunk will be repeated individually, once for each alternate suggestion that google's software can think of.

Output:

This is a purposefully convoluted sentence, this is a purposefully convoluted sentence comma which would ordinarily have several different underlined portions which would ordinarily have several different under light portions which would ordinarily have several different underline portions which would ordinarily have several different under life portions which would ordinarily have several different underlying portions with suggested Alternatives, but in this case with suggested Alternatives comma but in this case which suggested Alternatives, but in this case which suggested Alternatives comma but in this case all of those alternatives are placed in the text stream.all of those alternatives are placed in the text string. All of those alternatives are placed in the text screen. All of those alternatives are placed in the texts stream. All of those alternatives are placed in the text stream period

This problem persists even after rolling back the Google App, and indeed after doing all the other fixes I could find out there (clearing cache, factory reset, connecting to wifi, turning on airplane mode, etc). I have found others posting about this problem as early as 2014, and nobody has any solutions.

Edit: Strike the above. I have found that, for whatever reason, this no longer happens if I am connected to the internet via 4g and wifi is turned off. However, I seem to remember testing this specifically before and observing no change, so I can't say for sure what is actually happening. Perhaps some of the code is running on Google's servers, and for whatever reason my router is blocking some of the instructions? It is terribly confusing, and this behavior makes mme think debugging this is going to be very tedious and difficult.

I am using a Galaxy S7, accessing Google Voice Input via Hacker's Keyboard and Samsung Swype (no difference between them)

@JohnWittle welcome to Android Forums, and thanks for the detailed report!

I don't have any solutions or suggestions at the moment, but I'll use your post to do some more digging and will report back with my findings.

@JohnWittle My father is experiencing the exact same issue as you described on his Google Pixel 64Gb. His colleague's Galaxy S7 seems to be exhibiting the same bug as well. My 32GB Pixel on the other hand, appears to be unaffected for now.

I hope we can get to the bottom of this.

I have been having the exact same problem. Have tried switching from Sprint keyboard to Google keyboard, and it happens on both! I use voice to text very often and this is very frustrating! Have done all recommended fixes and no joy.

Hey guys,

Thanks for weighing in!

I haven't found any solutions yet, but there are two things I would recommend to make sure Google is aware of the problem:

  1. I would suggest that you use the Send feedback option in the Google app to report the issue directly to the developers.
  2. I found a thread at Google's Nexus Help Forum describing the same problem. I would encourage you to add your experiences there as well: https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/nexus/oY-rsjKXwHo.
Reporting problems in this way will make sure that they get the attention they deserve.

Hang in there!

AT&T (model SM-G930A)
After the 7.0 update today (3/8/17) whenever I use voice to text, I get the text repeated at least 3 times. It's happening across multiple apps (not just Textra which I thought was the initial culprit.)

Any ideas how to fix this?

I am having the same problem on my Verizon Galaxy S7 using the Verizon Messages app. Problem just started after upgrading to 7.0 yesterday. My buddy is also having the same problem and he is on AT&T.

I am all over the web trying to find a solution to this. Same thing is happening to me since the update. Voice to text is unusable. And that's the only way that I ever text!!!

My Galaxy S7 Edge started doing this about a week ago. It sometimes repeated my voice text 3 times, sometimes no repeats at all. Now it's up to about 8 repeats of whatever I dictate. It's maddening.

This describe my problem exactly. Just started happening about 60 minutes ago. Does NOT appear to be happening on "OK Google"

This is happening on all my Samsung Androids, including my tablets! It just started today! What's up?

I am having massive repeats of my sentences from Talk To Text on ALL my devices of Samsung Androids. This is a huge feature for me and I'm not sure how to fix this!
Help anyone? Thanks

Well at least I'm not the only one. I've been going crazy today trying to figure out what is going on with my talk to text. Repeating all my sentences over and over, and it is exactly as stated previously. Where each sentence is a different version of what could have been said. I've also notice strange auto corrects for typed words as well, things changed to something that doesn't even make sense to what I was trying to say. I really hope this gets fixed quickly as I depend on talk to text quite a lot.
