vlingo beta

I'm at work and unable to access the site (will try from home). Can someone tell me does VLingo provide for hands free voice dialing thru bluetooth?

I just installed it and haven't tested it yet, but I will in just a little bit. You can download and install it from your phone if you want. Just click on the link and save the file to your SD card.

EDIT: No, it does not do bluetooth voice dialing, but it does work for regular voice dial better than the native app does.

Frisco, where you able to get it working on your phone again?
I ask you because i know you're running 1.5.

I keep getting "Vlingo could not be installed on this phone"... so i'm not even getting as far as you did.

Won't work on 1.5, gotta wait for the update, I have it downloaded and ready.
 
I downloaded it straight from the link, and when I went to install it my phone prevented me from doing so because it's not a Market app. I went in to my settings and set it to allow non-Market apps, but now I can't find the download to install it. Do I need to download it again?

Well, I stumbled onto my original download when I tried downloading it again, so I stopped the second download and was able to install the first. So, problem solved but I still have the question - what's the easy way to get back to a download if there's an issue installing it and you have to try it again?
 
This is one of the best apps I've come across so far. The stock voice dialer absolutely sucked, but this one is great! Thanks for the tip!!!:D
 
I downloaded this today, tried it a few times now, It is really a great program for use in the car or when I'm alone, but I don't like talking to my phone in public.
 
Is there a way to launch vlingo using a long press on an answer/end call button on a wired headset? Currently the default HTC voice dialer comes up but I would much prefer Vlingo.

Get ES File Explorer from the market. It will let you navigate to your Download folder and access the files you download.

Ok, downloaded the vlingo file, renamed from zip to apk, put it on my SD card and my phone won't recognize it

Also unzipped the file, which created an apk folder and tried that, still no luck

Any thoughts?

I dunno what's wrong, I only have another way to try: Download the file on your computer. Then email the file to yourself. Go to the market and download and install APkatcher. Go to your email using your phone, hit Preview and APkatcher will install vlingo.

I've been messing around with vlingo and have a couple questions. I couldnt find anything about the android version at the official website.

1. I noticed in the ToS that anything you "say" in texts/emails belongs to vlingo and can be used by vlingo. Am I wrong? Crazy? Paranoid? Should I be scared?

2. So far accuracy is perfect; after I say what I want to text/email/call, however, I get a little screen that says who I'm sending it to, that it's a text/email/call with the phone number/email address. I then have to click the "text mobile" or "email" or "call" option and then it brings up the default client and I have to hit send.

Is this because it wants to "make sure" it's right? Will I always have to confirm or will it ever just do it on its own? I'd really like it to be automatic.

3. Any way to use the swype keyboard with the vlingo mic? This would be nice when I receive texts/emails and I'm in an area where I dont have to be quiet.

4. In the iphone's FAQ, vlingo stated you had to pay for text and email ability, along with a bunch of other paid options. Is this going to be true for Android?

5. All texts use the internet, right? So I dont have to worry about my texting limit?

You're paranoid. Unless you're a terrorist or a drug lord, I wouldn't worry about it. Personally, I don't flatter myself to be special enough for anyone to want to "track" who I call or text or what apps I open.

There is an option is settings that you can set to to auto dial always, when confident, or never. As far as the email/text go, not sure there is an option to automatically do the option. Maybe you could try saying "send" at the end of the command?

I highly doubt it. It looks like you have to use the vlingo keyboard to use the mic. However, could you try the stock voice dial to launch vlingo, then initiate the sentence...

Unless you specifically give them your CC info, they can't charge you. Can't give you an answer to "will they ever", though.

Texts don't use the internet unless you are using something like Google voice or some other internet phone app like it. If you use the stock sms app or Handcent, it will go towards your text limit.

You shouldn't have to rename, unzip, etc. Just dl file, drag and drop onto sd card then install it. Don't change anything on the file as it is already an .apk file.

Yeah, don't unzip or rename the file. You will need a program like Astro File Manager or something similar to "recognize" and install the file.
 
Wow I usually don't have much luck with the voice activated command type things; but this app works great. I love being able to text/mail/search with my voice from one widget. Very very convenient.
