Im having a problem with the nexbeast. My ringer when i get a call is screwing up. When my phone rings, it will ring one time, then it goes to a slient mode where the ringer is silenced. I have went through all my setting, and i can't find any settings that might have changed an caused the ringer to act up. Also my led notifications on sms messages are screwed up again:(

I just installed this ROM and the ROM fits the title of this thread very well! Mind me that I've only had it for about 10 hrs and 7 of those I was as sleep. :)

The installation was easy and the three videos did enough to get me to install it. I will reply back with any observations with-in a day or two!

fab, how's the 1.1 update coming along?

To be honest, I haven't really done much yet, except install Ps CS5 :(

Been pretty busy the last few days, had my folks in town, walked across the stage at my commencement yesterday.

Hopefully, after I teach myself some photo editing, I can have something for you guys :D

Hey Fab... how you liking CS5? I'm thinking about upgrading from CS4 and wanted to know if it was really better...

Not specifically, but you can use this in terminal emulator:

Code:
su
sysrw
cd /system/app/
rm com.helixproject.launcher
sync
sysro

I use the app called 'drocap2' from the market.

So now that I've decided I want LauncherPro as my permenent launcher, I need to remove the default launcher (this rom is still having problems remembering my default home settings). I've tried this, but it didn't work:

Code:
su
sysrw
cd /system/app/
rm com.android.launcher.apk
sync
sysro

The default launcher is just Launcher.apk

@ska.t73

I really can't tell the difference between CS5 and CS4. But then again, the extent of my Ps usage has been using the magnetic lasso to cut pictures of me out and paste them in nice, tropical locations, lol :D

LOL that is a very valid use for PS... BTW if you ever need someone to work on some of your icons or graphics for your theme hit me up...

I have the first question regarding NexBeast v1.0. I just tried installing Google Maps and got the following error "Installation error - Incompatible update."

My current setup is NexBeast v1.0 @ 1.0 GHz using the BEKIT7X1000LV.zip kernel.

Did you move Maps to /system/? Did you install over a ROM that had Maps on /system?

I've removed maps from /system for this very reason, since updates are a hassle, break the theme, etc.

If you have it on system, the best way to get it working is to uninstall all updates, remove from system, then go to manage applications, filter all, remove all traces of com.google.android.maps, and restart.

Then reinstall. This will ensure that there is only 1 copy of the app, and it is in /data/

On another note, I've finally got a version of Mms.apk that I'm happy with (black background, white text, and video MMS working in full speed)

No more notification settings, but that is the comprise I'm willing to make.

This will be in the next release ;)

This did the job! :) I was also going crazy looking for Google Talk... the app icon was right on my home page and also in the app drawer... but I was looking for the classic icon as oppose to the updated one in NexBeast

I'm still getting used to the new icons! :D

I was reading through all the posts... I noticed you have quite a bit of apps on the various screen-shots that you have. Do you have a post on the apps/widgets that you like best? I would be interested in knowing.

Thanks for your hard work and for your replies! Good luck in life after college!

Fabolous - I have a questions regarding the kernels. I noticed you provide a link to various kernels. However, in one of your videos I noticed you are (were) using P3droid instead. Which one are you using now? If P3droid, could you point me to a good download link. Thanks.

I'm using P3Droid kernels now. I suggest modifying the 'pete' script so that it doesn't auto-kill setcpu. It's located in /system/xbin/

I think this will be another mod that will be present in the next release.

You can find the P3Droid kernels here:

P3Droid Kernels

I found the file and I am ready to make the update. Please let me know what do you mean by modify the pete script so that it doesn't auto-kill. Is commenting the line out good enough? Or do I need to pass a busybox parameter other than killall?

Hey fab I just installed your rom lastnight and I'm loving it so far. But I have a few questions. Is there a script to remove the facebook app? Does this rom act just like petes as far as setcpu being used? Thanks for a great rom!!!

Any one else having problems with people hearing you when you have the phone plugged into the car audio system using auxiliary? I can hear them through the car speakers but they can'thear me.

aww man. no notification settings? Oh well, beggers can't be choosers. :)

With BBV1.1, will Pete's scripts be present. I think I'm having issues with the 50mb free all the time script. My understanding is that this script auto-runs on boot but I think it's killing my browser apps pre-maturely. Specifically my Dolphin HD and Skyfire, I know they are RAM hogs. My assumption might be off but that is my only guess why my browsers close without notice.

I thought that modified pete file would help me but it doesn't. Any thoughts?

The 'pete' file does indeed have the settings for how much memory is kept free by the system. But, I did not modify that, only the overclocking aspects.

For the next release, I have changed it so that it still keeps Pete's scaling settings (advanced settings in SetCPU), but it will not force any frequencies or try to kill SetCPU.

I remember people playing around with the free50mb script and lowering it to free40mb, but I forgot the numbers. The problem with doing that would be you'd have to run it every time...but you could switch those numbers into the Pete script, which would run it every boot!

I've been having problems with random reboots since installing NexBeast. Here's my story - originally rooted with DM. I installed NexBeast over DM after doing a full wipe and started to notice the reboots. It always happened when the phone was asleep. So I used ROM Manager to flash to 2.1 rooted (after doing a full wipe), reformatted the sd card, did another full wipe and flashed NexBeast using Clockwork. It ran fine for a couple of hours like that so I installed the 1 Ghz kernel but the reboots came back. I dropped to the 800 Mhz kernel and it ran stable with no reboots for over 60 hours. I thought, "nailed it!" so I did a full backup. Then after running with no problems for several hours, it just rebooted in my pocket. I know all processors are different but I had this running solid at 1.0 Ghz with DM. What's the most likely culprit? Maybe try a different kernel? If so, which one? Thanks.

Edit: And I haven't been using SetCPU.

LoBatt, I suggest using SetCPU. It will allow you to downclock the phone when it is in standby (in your pocket).

It might help keep the phone more stable.

The OP has been updated w/ new files/features of version 1.0.1. Enjoy everyone. I should have a video up shortly of some ADW/optimizing tips.

Sweet thanks Fab! I'm guessing we can just install over the old one right? No need to wipe?

I think so, though you may need to remove wireless tether first. Run this in your terminal emulator:

Code:
su
sysrw
rm /system/app/wireless_tether_2_0-pre10.apk
sync
sysro

The new wifi tether included is pretty cool. Monitors battery temperature, has bluetooth tethering (experimental)...
