...I was told by BB that after this release, per a conference call today, they will no longer be working with Sprint to upgrade 1 year premier customers. When I asked him why, he simply stated BB makes no money on it...

At first, your entire post got confusing, but after re-reading it, I understood completely. This is the part that intrigued me the most. My experiences with Best Buy have been fantastic, but if they'll no longer be catering to Sprint Premier 1 year upgrades, I guess RS will be getting my business next (if there's a phone this time next year that I want to upgrade to). I'm just glad that it's "after this release." If they were going to institute this as of immediately, I'd be rushing to the closest RS to place another pre-order...LOL.

In my situation, the only thing I had to worry about was the fact that my other 2 lines aren't eligible for full upgrade until August. I just called into Sprint to see if they can change the full upgrade eligibility for earlier, if I wanted to get the EVO once it's released (this was prior to the June 4 announcement). Nontheless, one of the managers approved her Tier 1 rep to indicate in the "notes" section of Sprint's database that all 3 lines would have full upgrade by the time the EVO releases. As far as I understood it, I'd just have to tell the rep to read the account notes in order to apply the full upgrade price (if I were buying 3 EVO's on the release date). I'm still unsure if I'll be upgrading the other 3 lines to EVO's, but we'll see if that changes in a couple weeks...LOL.

Thanks for sharing the info though. Really good to know for next year.

Lol I hawked BB the day pre-orders were set to start (I think here started at 2pm as it didn't start beforehand) and I'm so excited! This is my first Android phone and can't wait to get using it. I'm in DC so while we don't have an official Wimax release it's been rumored a signal's been here for over a year. Just joined the forums today and can't wait for June 4th (or earlier) to get this thing!

I know it has kinda been beaten to death but I just thougth I would add my 2 cents. The lack of internal memory and shipping with only an 8gb card REALLY sucks. I just can't imagine this high tech device, made for HD content, with an 8 megapixel camera that shoots 720p video coming with storage that was standard for the iphone 3 years ago (do they even make an 8gb iphone anymore?). Yes I know the memory is expandable up to 32gb, but seriously who is going to but a 32gb card anytime soon? I have an ipod touch that I use for medical apps (im a med student) and a few games. It is only 8gb and it is crammed full and I dont even have any videos or pictures on it. I have probably 8 albums on it and a bunch of apps. I guess my point is that as android apps progress and get bigger and better, they will take up more space. I guess the solution to this is app2sd which is supposed to come with 2.2, but still space is going to be a bigger concern than most people think, in my opinion.
Imagine if you had a few movies, some 8mp pictures, took a few 720p videos, and had your favorite music on the evo. 8gb will go really fast. Its gonna suck when I go to take a video or a picture and the space is full. I hate apple (the ipod touch was a gift, what can you do?!) and I am prepared for the new iphone to have a billion gb of space (well seriously around 64gb). anyways thats my rant, just wanted to get it off my chest (I cant really vent about that stuff to my wife!)

Yeah. How about walt mossberg. Talk about a head nodder.

River, I got some clarity one lte iPhone. Turns out it's a separate test model not a radio in phone being released in June. Like you said lol.

My dear can you comment on whether you can wirelessly tether on 3 g with evo? I'm kinda pissed about $30 month tether on sprint.

Wow resorted to personal attacks have we? Nice. WSJ is just to the right of Fox news and the "reporters" make Glen Beck look rational. I will not go competely offtopic here, but let me put it this way.

Sprint to Unveil First WiMax Phone - WSJ.com

There is not much in there that is really the truth. Heavly slated to WIMAX VS LTE, which is not true. And LTE GREAT, WIMAX BADDDD.

The wall street journal is not a technology magazine and is slanted to support financial traders with money in the markets.

It is meant to control the opinions of the investors to the benefits of the people that are in the market.

The current market backing is for lte. Which means they can not be trusted to tell the truth bout anything that does not fully support lte.

The above article is only about 20% true. Which makes it on the level of ozcarguide.

Still trying to understand the problem. If you have 30 microsd cards. Each of them have 8gigs, that is 240 gigs of memory.

Now if you take your medical stuff and place it on card 1. You have 232 gigs of memory left. If you take your music and place it on card 2, you have 226gigs left. If you take your videos and place it on card 3-7. You still have 194gigs left.

If you have and Ipod with 32 gigs of memory, you can not have 56 gigs of music, medical, and videos on a 32 gig device. You would have to connect the player to your pc and change each file manually, adding hours of time your day.

But if the evo had 8 gigs internal, would you use it any different then 8 gigs external? The external option gives you 15sec change for gigs of information.

Adding 8 gigs of flash memory would increase the final cost of the product to over 550 and possibly to 600 hundred.

I do not understand why people want to buy anything that has a fix memory. It increases the final cost for the device and is less useful as external memory.

Oh no, you didn't just go there. There is no way i am going to be going back and forth giving out info on the fly. I'll lose my mind. lol

btw, NYU only has 5% as per the list.

I will be putting the list up in a thread so i do not have to take requests. But it will take me a few hours to do it. remember its over 16000 companies.

If any of you have Microsoft Excel 2007 or any excel that can view 2007 files, then I can put up the link to my spreadsheet and let you look up the info. Otherwise you will all have to wait till I put it in a thread.

TS

Unless I am misunderstanding how Google Docs works, could you just upload the spreadsheet to Google Docs and then give everyone a link to it? You shouldn't have to convert or retype anything in that case.

Also, along these same lines, StudentRate.com has an online store that lets you get a 15% student discount off monthly bill, plus $50 off instantly, plus an extra $25 credit to your bill (one time) specifically for the Evo. You have to go through StudentRate.com to get to the Sprint online store in order to receive the discounts. I mention it here because the only thing you need to do to sign up for StudentRate is reply from a .edu email address, which you might still have even if you have already graduated (I replied from a community college email address and got it, so I'd imagine most universities would work). That way, if your school isn't listed in the spreadsheet (or it is less than 15%) you can still get the full discount. The only downside is you have to do the mail in rebate rather than BB or RS instant (for an additional $75 off, I'd say its worth it) and you can't preorder unless Sprint adds online preorders through its site sometime before release.

First, walt mossberg is nothing. Articles :: Karl Rove Karl Rove is a little fear monger over at the wsj.

About tethering, I think it can be done easily. Since the 10 buck is going to remove the cap, I am going to dump my 30 buck tethering fee. I will either root or find an app that allows me to tether. The only reason I pay for the tethering now is because I use between 5 and 10 gigs a month, and I do not tether all that much. I just needed to get it because I do use alot of data a month.

But I think we are going to see the tethering apps pop up everywhere. And i doubt sprint is going to try to limit tethering use from here on out. I think the 10 dollar mandatory fee is the future.

yeah i understand the issue about internal memory increasing the final cost, so I am fine with it not coming with it, the thing i have a problem with (not a big problem I might add) is only 8gb even if it is a card. correct me if im wrong but the HD2, which doesnt do 720p video or have an 8mp camera, comes with a 16gb card.

as far as having a dozen different sd cards with all my stuff on it, that just seems inconvienent ( and who has 30 8gb micro sd cards?). there is no way i can carry around multiple, let alone 30, micro sd cards with me without losing them. and i dont want to separate my stuff like that. i dont want to have to switch cards when i want to watch a video or when i want to listen to music or use an app.
anyways, not a deal breaker for me just something I thought was kinda weird. I personally think they should offer different levels of the phone (like the iphone) with more memory on it. i personally would pay an extra hundred dollars to have 32gb of internal memory or whatever it would be

I can upgrade my line at Best Buy and get a Hero for the meanwhile since I sold my Hero then exchange for an Evo when it comes out right?

Better person then I am. To be honest with you, 32 is nothing today. I have 30 micro sd cards. I made myself something like this Credit Card SD Holder

Then labeled the parts, music, video, and stuff. Works really well, get about 20 cards per large card and fits into my wallet just fine. I just used one card as the back, and one card as the cutout. The make a whole in the back of each slot to push out the micro sd. Works really well.

To each his/her own, but for me, I would rather have the option to change the data when ever I wanted. They would not allow my mp3 player to be taken with me. They just said they had a security threat that involved mp3 players.

Just popped out my micro and handed over my 30 dollar mp3 player. If I had a ipod touch I would have lost my music, no way to remove or change it over, and I would have to do the request for return once I left the country.

For me, i remove and change devices all day. I take my micro and play it on mp3 player, car, laptop, then to my home theater, with only 1 card. Removal cards are easier for me to use then fix memory.

So this may or may not interest some of you; however for someone like me that wants to buy two EVO's, but only has one available line to upgrade and one that is only available for half of an upgrade this might.

I called BB today to finally get an answer to whether or not I could purchase another EVO for my wife and receive the instant rebate because her line isn't up for upgrade yet.... if I were to upgrade it I would imagine instead of receiving the full $150 off I would only receive $75. You guys with me so far?!?! I know it may come off as a bit confusing and for that I am sorry.

Thats sounds pretty cool. who confiscated your mp3 player?

dont get me wrong, i love the option of removable memory, which allows you to upgrade or add on at you own will. one thing i will want is multiple different things on the phone at once for example, i like listening to music while using a study app. or i listen to music while playing games. i guess i just like the convienence of having my stuff on the phone at the same time. which like i said is why i would love the 32gb option plus and expandable memory slot.

the bottom line is i want as much space as possible. i guess for some people the solution is multiple cards, but for me that just seems like too big a hassle.

i hate comparing thing to apple because i really do hate apple. (i know i have an ipod touch but it was a gift okay!) but the reality is that everyone has been chasing the iphone for the last several years. I know this phone has several things that are better than the current iphone and probably better than the next iphone (namely 4g) but this is an area where i feel it will fall short. i know the iphone doesnt have expandable memory which really sucks, but for those of us that dont want to carry a ton of cards, more space is better.

there is nothing i can do about it, and its definitely not going to keep me from buying the phone (anything is better than the instinct at this point) and to be honest, it is the only thing that i have even the slightest issue with.

That's true..... except you're not taking into account where the slot is. Is it on the side of the phone like my old ass Moto SLVR? That would be convenient. Or is it under the battery where you have to power down, take the phone apart, pry under the battery, and then reverse that long tedious process?

Even if you only have to take off the case, that's a huge difference

A certain eastern bloc country in which I would rather throw myself off a bridge then go back to.

Just frozen. The evo has it under the battery. Which means you have to remove the battery to get to. But is it easier to remove the battery and change cards or delete and replace 8-16gigs of cards?

For me, with the blackberry, it is like 15 secs. Pop off the back cover, pull battery, insert card, battery cover, phone on.

With out micro sd card you need to boot pc, attach phone to pc, delete old information, and wait to load. If I am in the middle of a line waiting for a plane. The last thing I want to do is stop and do that.
