Pre Orders?

I am going to be a brand new Verizon customer because of the Droid. I want to go to a local Best Buy tomorrow to pre order the phone. According to Verizon's company discount verification page I am eligible for an 18% company discount on talk and 20% on data plans. When I pick up my Droid on 11/6 will Best Buy be able to sign me up with the company discounts? Or will I have to sign up for the plan I want and then add the discounts on after the fact?

If you are going that route, just cancel your current account and get a new account. $175 max cancellation + $199 with 2-year contract vs $599 retail.

It's not going to work. If he cancels his verizon contract, and then immediately signs up for another one, they'll just re-activate his old contract. I think you have to wait at least 6 months after cancelling before you'd get an actual new contract and be eligible for a discounted price.
 
I just pre-ordered from Best Buy. I am number 1. I just used our 2 every 2 discount for a new phone for my wife, so it would be the same either place and I already have a $50 GC at BB.
 
Just got back from my BB and they are NOT honoring the new every 2, he also said though it is a "store by store" basis. Gotta love chain stores acting independently. :rolleyes:
 
when i go to work later today im gonna check the inventory and see whats up, since all this talk that bestbuy is preordering.

i was talking with the guys who sell the phones at work and they told me that they sometimes get a working version of the phone so the employees can demo and show customers. Usually all of the phones at bestbuy are fakes and just plastic crap so i really hope we have a live demo phone so i can try it out..

i went down to a verizon store last night around 8:30pm right before they closed. there was like 15 employees and like 1 or 2 customers. i ended up picking the brain of almost everybody in there. not surprised, they didnt know shit about the phone itself but what bothered me was they didnt know jack about their own contracts.

i told them im due for a 2 yr upgrade on 8/2010 and i upgraded to my blackberry back in december. my question to them was since my plan was over $60/month is there a special discount so i can upgrade once a year.

IIRC you have to call verizon after you sign up. i originally signed up my plans at bestbuy where i work and i still had to call verizon

The answer is yes. But it's not because of your plan. Register on the myverizon site and you automatically get an upgrade every 11 months and are discounted by $50. So does that answer your question?

I can confirm that, I get to play with one real one that got lock up in their cabinet, the one on the display are fake plastics. The real one is very solid.

explain further...i've been with verizon for 12+ years and have never heard that...and i have signed up at myverizon.

Yes, that very much does so. thank you.. just to clarify a few things. I already signed up on verizonwireless.com, i assume thats the same thing as myverizon.com. i use it to check my balances, pull up statements and check usage.

Also this $50 discount, is it off the full price of the retail phone or off the upgrade price or what?

Would i end up paying $249 instead of the $299 - $100 gift card?

Yea, i asked them about the droid last week and shes like we dont have one yet but she gave me the HTC hero?? to play with so i can get used to android OS

I'm sorry I got it mixed up you can upgrade for the discounted price every 11 months but you don't get the 50 dollar discount that is for VIP members only.

If you were a VIP member you would get $50 off of the purchase price. So you would pay $249 in store and receive a mail in rebate which would have you actually paying $149 total instead of $199. In order to be a VIP member you have to have a single line or the primary line of a family plan must be $79.99 or more. Basically most of their select plans. here is the exact wording.

ok king, thanks very much bud. very useful information. Im already register on verizonwireless.com so i assume its the same thing but myverizon is just a shortcut to the personal login screens. I used to get backup assistant for free on my env so id assume im already good to go.

right now i have a family plan of 3 phones where im the primary. the plan on my line is 700 minutes shared, at $80/month IIRC and then i have unlimited text and also my bb data plan. the 2 following lines are at $9.99/month so i should definitely be able to get it down to $149 then.

Either way it is good to here that you are eligible for an annual upgrade with or without the VIP. I know the $50 would help but it's nice to know you don't have to pay $549. Glad I could help.

It will. As long as you bring your receipt with the paper they stapled it to then the $50 will be deducted from the total price of the device. What people are getting confused about is yeah it is on a gift card but that's their way of refunding the money if somebody decides that they actually don't want to get the device after they have already pre ordered. So no worries when you go in there you will not have to pay $199 you will only owe the balance due after they scan your receipt and subtract the amount you paid.
 
They make you purchase a gift card because its easy to void that gift card if you dont want it anymore. when you do come in to purchase it, you use the gift card as part of the payment
