MARRIAGE

In my time, it was almost unheard of for a woman to keep her maiden name. (keep in mind that I'm older than dirt) Now.. not so much. I can see it go either way. I've even seen a case where the man changed his last name to that of his new bride. Different world now. Whatever makes sense to the couple, works.

My wife had two children when we married. She also had her PHD in Pharmacology with the associated licences. I was a pain (well not really a pain, but a bunch of work and paperwork) for her to get all that changed when she married me. I would have understood had she not wanted to change. That said, I'm very happy she took my name.

My wife and I had a probably had a minute long conversation on this topic. I told my wife I could careless whether she kept her last name or took mine. I explained I wasn't marrying her because of a last name. She did a combination of our last name.

Its completely her choice... if she wants to or not, whatever makes her happy.

and if you don't want her to be happy, you probably shouldn't be marrying her.

Back a million years ago when I got married, it was pretty unusual for the woman to keep her own name. If I got married today I'd give it a lot of thought, perhaps ending up keeping my own name. But I can't really be sure! In general, though, I think it's up to the woman; it's her choice and isn't good or bad one way or the other, it just is whatever she decides it to be.

change it or not... it is her choice.

I would LIKE it if she took my name. but it would not affect anything either way.

I hate the hyphen option...
just silly. and long... more trouble .. and it still does not match the partner unless both change their names to hyphen-ed.

i would never change my name to the woman's last name.

I would if her's was cooler. What if your name were Jasper Q. Fuzzybottom and her's was Jacqueline Kennedy? ;)

Ot what about a surname called "Porkbutt"? :D

Hmm but Kennedy? :D Do you like being in the crosshair of a sniper rifle? :D

If I could choose a surname if she had a cooler one like Mortalis! >:--D lol I might take the surname Nightstalker looool I have been playing too much Dota 2!

Might actually choose the surname Eisenhower if I could choose one lol :)

Eisenhower is such a cool sounding surname :D

I like that surname :)

Sounds really cool and I love iron and various metals anyway ;)

Hahahah, You're a trip. Everyone knows that the Clinton's don't sniper ppl, they just make it look like a suicide, an accident, or an itemless robbery. 😂😂
In reference to the title thread tho: the name thing is awesome but if/when a divorce happens, the female gets her choice of keeping said name or reverting to the maiden name. I've been there, actually. And I'm proud of my name. I honestly couldn't imagine taking the girl's last name.. unless she was some kind of psycho and I was just in fear for my life.. 😎 Then maybe, if I couldn't escape.
