The Factory Data Reset Option

QUESTION: my google search bar isnt working. everytime i click on it..it redirects to the quick search bar! I DO NOT want it to do that...how can i make it stop?

I didn't have as much luck as everyone else. After the factory reset, *228, etc I could not make calls or txt. Message said it could not authenticate. Had to get to a level 2 tech to fix it. It did make things better, but I think mine was faster with 1.5.

Well, finally took the plunge last night and did the reset. I managed to use the HTC sync and copied my SD card to my computer and only lost my contact's ring tone/photo id settings. Phone is definitely running better.

i usually don't post too much here, but i guess it worth to mention this:

i've been using the leak 3 since it came out, the phone was fine, little slow downs here and there but nothing frustrating, other than battery life.

last night i did a factory data reset after a full charge, then right after that, i synced everything and reinstalled my apps, i used that phone HEAVILY for about 3 hours, including internet and once i put it down, it still had like 75% of battery, maybe 80%, i mean, the battery life definitively improved.

so there you have it, another happy Eris owner.

Ever since I did the upgrade, my Notifiications for new gmail emails coming in is not working and neither are are my emails, used to pop up at same time i'd get emails on my laptop. I noticed that "Sync Gmail" had a date from 2 days ago and when tell it to sync now, it just spins and date doesnt change. An error comes up saying "sync is currently experiencing problemas and will be back shortly" (been saying that for 2 day now). I have Auto Sync checked off.

Factory reset is recommended for me or do I have bigger problems?? thx

Factory reset worked like a charm for my wife's phone...thanks again Frisco!

You're very welcome. Great to see so many issues being swept away by this step, which should be in the OTA installation instructions in my opinion.

after my ota update, I noticed the dialer extremely laggy... I could not use speed dial... my photos would not view in vertical view and the list button would take me back to the albums page, and finally the no sound no phone call bug that is extremely horrible....

I did the factory reset which cured the speed dial issue and the general laggyness but i still cant use the list button in my photo viewer and i have gotten the no sound/no call bug 3x since i did the reset 2 days ago.....

this sucks

Bummer--I was hoping factory reset on LV3 would cure silent bug....I what total percent of Eris users have this problem now that the OTA is in wider distribution? Seems that HTC or Verizon would be flooded with angry customers if it's common.

So I did this factory re-set last night to try and take care of some pretty bad keyboard lag in the browser and a few other sniggly problems which seem better.

BUT now I have a pretty major issue I have never encountered before. When I plugged into a USB on my macbook last night to charge only, the indicator showed it was charging. When I woke up this morning, it said it was still charging and only showed about 75% full. Huh? I thought. That makes no sense.

Now I am in a conference, typing and tweeting away on my MB, with my Eris plugged into it and it shows the lighting bolt in the battery but doesn't show the green bar animation in that battery. Instead, it shows just above the level where it would get yellow. The red charging LED is on too.

Then, after about 1.5 hours of this, the screen goes dead. I hold the power button and the phone reboots (so it had been off). Once it goes through the process, I get the message to connect my charger. Not a warning of 10 or 15% battery. Just connect now and a big empty red battery on the screen. I plug it back in and back to a lighting bolt in the battery but no moving green bar, a red LED above that and the trackball flashing white.

In other words, now that I've done a factory re-set, I am getting no charge when plugged into my computer. Haven't tried plugging into the wall yet. I will tonight when I get back to my room, but this is not good. Considering the crappy battery life normally, I plug my Eris into my computer when at work in order to keep it full charged all day.

EDIT: It's also shutting off while plugged into my computer!

Can someone please help?
Also, I am running 2.1 using the OTA file that was posted and installed it myself using the instructions from this board. After re-set, I used MyBackUp Pro to re-install apps and settings/Android Home/Dictionary.

Thank you.

I have the OTA and it just happened to me today. Its a serious issue, and nobody seems to know exactly what causes it.

As mentioned, I still have the silent-call issue after OTA and factory reset. For the past few days i've spent considerable time with VZW support techs trying to get a root-cause. No joy. It _appears_ to be hardware-related, so if you're phone suffers from silent-call, have them give you a new one. (Mine's on the way...)

It should be noted that there are a few things the Factory Data Reset will NOT solve:

1. Pinch-to-zoom in Google Maps (promised in PDF, not really available).
2. Speech-to-text (promised in PDF, not really available unless you install an alternative keyboard).
3. Silent call bug.

Someone needs to tell Verizon's Twitter rep *AN that though. Check out these unhelpful tweets from VZWSupport:

@VZWSupport indeed. No p2z in Google maps nor v2t in options after 2.1 update.
@aerotjk Have you tried doing a hard reset on your phone? *AN

@VZWSupport the new 2.1 update has slowed my Eris phone app to a crawl. Lot of audio problems. Any suggestions?
@coreyramsey Have you tried to do a hard reset on your phone? *AN

@VZWSupport How do I get the promised speech to text feature to work on my Eris 2.1?
@bhquiz Have you tried to do a hard reset on your phone. *AN

Is it really a matter of one rep just doesn't know what they are talking about, or is it a case of where they have a company line that they have to say that is about all they can suggest?

Frisco, thx for the info on the reset.

I had the same thing happen to me. Had to dial #8899 and get a VZW rep to reset my security code (pretty sure it is the DMU) on the phone.

Factory reset in progress...

Everything was fine, including battery life, after my update late Sunday night and today all hell broke loose. I go to use my phone and the entire custom scene was fuxored and a few apps were not working. Therefore, factory reset. Ho hum.

"Your phone has been programmed successfully. Thank you for calling Verizon Wireless. Goodbye. BEEP BEEP BEEP."

CORRECTION...Factory Reset caused a HUGE problem with my wifes phone today...her phone wouldn't authenticate her outgoing or incoming phone calls, text messages, internet, etc...her phone was rendered useless all day until I could get someone with tech support to help...apparently sometimes when you do a reset the phones encryption can mess up and needs to be "tweaked" by VZW tech support before you can do anything with the phone...

Long story short, my wife's phone is up and running again...but she's had it with the Eris and the 2.1 update! She wishes she would have stuck with her RAZR...way to go Verizon...

You should know that this was neither a product of the Eris or the 2.1 update. Its an error in the network and happens from time to time when activating a new or replacement phone (or in this case reprogramming of your current phone)

I just tried doing this, because it seemed to be less catastrophic than a full reset (not in the mood to re-install everything at the moment). However it got stuck on step #3. It came up with the Eris picture with the exclamation point next to it, and just froze completely. I waited and waited. Finally had to pull the battery to reboot.

So... I guess if I do anything, it'll have to be the full reset. Still think I'll wait until someone can answer whether or not I'm wasting my time if I installed LV3 and not the OTA update (because it wipes the phone in that process anyway, right?).

Home is incorrect. You should press down volume and power. At that point you will see the menu to allow factory reset.
