I use Handcent, and it does both. Though Im unclear what the OP was asking, which is one of the reasons I didnt respond to this thread earlier.

Likewise , So thought I would Respond now and see if that's what the OP meant :)

LOL. I was wondering what they the OP was saying as well. I read it twice because i was sure i misread something. But Handcent is very nice IMO. Handles MMS well.

I use handcent, but I have one big complaint.....

Not sure if this makes sense, but say I send a text and know it is going to be a conversation text (meaning back and forth dialogue) I can't just keep the text screen open, because it won't update when the person responds. Instead I have to either back out of it, or go to notifications and click on the "new text message."

If that makes sense, does anyone know a way to have the conversations update?

If you really need and use MMS a lot, Handcent is the best option I think. I personally prefer chompSMS, but I rarely use MMS myself.

Has anyone tried Speak SMS with Handcent on the Hero? It sounds like a great idea for us who are typing challenged.

yup, I've tried it a few times. It's not as effective as I'd like. It has a success rate (for my speaking pattern) of about 75%. It's still a neat feature though. Maybe with practice on your speech pattern, you can get better results. Not sure though.

The speech to text works so so for me. Pretty good for short basic stuff, much worse with multi-syllable words. Then, when my wife tried it it worked pretty darn well for her. I don't think our speech is all that different, but this feature does, I guess.
