Help Cat s61 trouble calling after updating to Android 9

Mine S61 (bought just a month ago so still on warranty) just went to service centre for downgrade procedure. I'll let you know if it helped.

Hi There,
Sorry for my english!
I am live in Sweden. I get same problem regarding the calls and the internet to slow and low range connection for calls. I have contact CAT support. They have contact with local workshop. They pick it up to restore Andorid 8. I should make a backup and reset factory settings before. They send it back with Android 8. Its working well but i get other problem i couldn't restore my backup. The phone could't restore the backup was saving in google cloud account. Mayby Android 8 dont read backup of 9?
Any ideas?
Joakim

Just here to confirm I got the exact same issue as you guys. Got my phone downgraded to 8.1 as a warranty job.
Phone is not working great, but just like Casper Tawil above all my files are in cloud limbo due to being from a newer version.
And here I was going around recommending Cat to all my friends and co-workers...

It took some time, buf I finally got my device back after roll down. Works perfectly so far. No signal range issues, no calls braking down, no 2G-3G-LTE manual switchng neccessary.

Hello,

I sent my phone to the Cat Hungarian service center on Oct 25. Today I received a brand new S61. I dont know why not repair but I'm happy.

Hi!

I also live in Sweden and i have problems with android 9 and i want to downgrade it back to android 8. Where can i contact CAT support?

thx in advance.

Seems like I have solved the problem of crashing every minute on my S61 after the latest android update. Before that minute-wise crashes, I also had the problem of not being able to end some calls.

The app "App Toolbox" seemed to run in the background (I never used it), collecting lots of data and running out of memory. This slowed down my phone and made it crash every minute (with full restart, while suggesting to make a factory reset to solve the problem).

I tried to set this app to the most quiet mode, cleared the cache and keep it as inactive as possible. Up to now (since 2 days) that helped.

As this app comes by default, it is not possible to uninstall it.

Maybe they will find a problem in their firmware and solve it. I send this hint about "App Toolbox" already to CAT.

Hopefully they spread an update with a more stable system soon.

It would be interesting if this hint also helps some of you guys. Please share your experience after performing the same like I did.

not sure if anyone else have had this issue yet but here goes:

Suddenly i got a message in the phone saying: App toolbox Failed to load. this message came every second and after hitting it a bunch of times the phone restarted. When booting android it failed. saying i needed to restore android to factory setting... i did not do this. Phone started up same problem until it restarted again- this time i selected the return to factory settings. after phone was back to factory setting. i downloaded everything down again from Google cloud ( all my apps. everything was stored in cloud ) it did install everything automatic. this was 2 days ago have no problems yet the phone works fine.

An Update to this: i checked in with CAT ( my phone is used as i business phone and the company i work for purchased it ) their support department said: they are aware of the problem and a factory reset fixes the problem in 90% of the cases. But remove all games and other stuff from phone. An security update for the phone is planned to release by 15 january wich will fix everything. they also said they only have this problem with phones in Europe not the rest og the planet

Also dont let the phone update to Android 9 roll back to version 8.1.0 if you keep it on android 9 the problem will not go away

Hi,

Again.. Same problem. App toolbox failed to load and restart. I try factory reset. Congratulation to Cat!

An security update for the phone is planned to release by 15 january wich will fix everything.

I think its not true. Cat lies since months.

Dear Stig Gunnar Heggelund,

Thank you for contacting us.

You might be able to fix the issue by trying the following options:

Ensure that your device runs on the latest software:
1. Open Settings
2. Tap System > Advanced > System update
3. You'll see your update status. Update software if available, follow any steps on the screen

Clear the App Toolbox Cache and Data:
Settings>Applications> go to the 'All' tab, and look for (App Toolbox)> tap
Storage > tap Clear Cache and the Clear Data buttons

If this doesn't help, restart the device in safe mode and compare if the device functions normally:
1. Press the power button as if powering down.
2. Then on your screen, touch and hold the 'Power off' icon
3. A new screen will be displayed allowing the option to open in Safe mode, select OK and the phone will restart in safe mode. You will see "Safe mode" at the bottom of your screen.
4. Check the performance, if the problem is resolved, restart the device. (Safe mode disables all 3rd party applications)
5. Now in normal mode one by one, remove the most recently downloaded apps. After each removal, restart your phone normally and see whether removing that app solved the problem
6. After you removed the problematic app, you may add back all the other apps, that you have removed. (You may attempt re-installing the problematic app, however, if the behaviour repeats, please report it to app owner).

If nothing else seems to help, you may reset your device to factory settings ( especially IF you were able to complete an Android update from the step above)
.
IMPORTANT: A factory reset erases all your data from your phone.
1. Make a note of your Google account and password
2. Back up your data
3. Connect the phone to charger
4. Open Settings
5. Tap System > Advanced > Reset options. If you don't see "Advanced," tap Reset options
6. Tap Erase all data (factory reset) > Reset phone
7. To erase all data from your phone's internal storage, tap Erase everything
8. When your phone has finished erasing, pick the option to restart
9. Set up your phone and restore your backed-up data

In case none of these resolve the issue, then unfortunately, you'll need to send you device in for servicing. Kindly have a copy of your receipt for the device and fill up the following:

Full Name:
Pickup address:
Phone number:
And let us know a convenient date and time for the pickup (excluding weekends):

It will also help our processes faster if you can include the device IMEI number as well. You can locate the IMEI number in several ways:
1. This can be found on the outside of the box that you received your phone in and makes up part of the Approval’s label.
2. If the box is not available, type into the device via the keyboard*#06# a pop up box will show the device IMEI.
3. Select Settings and then About phone and then Status, you will now have the option to select IMEI information.

With this on hand, we can determine the available service options for your device, and we'll advise you of the process shortly.

Hello Stig,

Thank you for updating us.

We hope you still have the device as we have received word from our engineers that similar cases recently have been resolved at the centre by doing the following:

1) With the power option select the option "Try again" in the recovery mode screen.
2) Once the device reboots to the main menu, tap and hold the Tool box app icon (widget)
3) Select "App info" option> storage> clear data and cache
4) Scroll back and select "Force stop"
5) Finally with the power button, reboot the device.

Here's the tricky part, sometimes while doing this the device will restart in the recovery mode screen, so please try to do these steps as fast as possible.

We've forwarded this case to HQ as well they are trying to get a sampling of how prevalent this issue is so let us know if this helps.

Best regards,

Dear Nicolas

Thank you for contacting us.

What happens to the phone may be related to the Tool Box application.

What we need to do is the following:

1. With the volume button select the option "Try again" and with the power button, confirm it.
2. The phone will restart.

Quickly, you have to follow these steps, maybe the phone will go back to the options screen again, but don't stop doing these steps until you get it, it's the only way not to lose the information.

1 Once the phone is turned on again, make your selections: CONFIGURATION> APPLICATIONS> VIEW xx APPLICATIONS > the applications are in alphabetical order, as soon as possible select TOOL BOX app.
2. Once you are in the tool box app> select STORAGE> DELETE DATA.
3. Go back to the previous screen and select "FORCE STOP
4. When finished, restart the phone.

Please contact us again if you need further support.

Hi, can anyone confirm that update CAT S61 v1.022.01 from January 2020 solve all old update from October 2019?
What is the version of update android 9 from October 2019?
Currently my version is 8.1 and I don't now if it's ok to upgrade because in the past I have had another phone cat s61 and I upgraded from android 8.1 to android 9 and for sure I had issues especially with network failing and battery which while under 60 % it was dropping very fast to 0%.
I hope to somebody knows to respond me.

Hello, yesterday the software was updated to version 1.024.01, it corresponds to version 9.0 of android and the security patch of December 1, 2019. I hope that the error of the app tool box is corrected, At this moment I have version 5.40.30.75, if anyone can check before updating which version it would be great, so check that they corrected something.

The patch is from December 2019, we are in January 2020, it's fine that way. For now everything is fine with the update, if I have any problem I post it here. What version of tool box do you have installed? Cheers!

Hi,
I want to fix some info. For the first time I had a cat s61 from 2018 after launch. In October 2019 I received update from original android 8.1 to android 9.0 . After update the issues has begun, poor network and battery dropping. I sent the phone to service and I received another new phone with android 8.1 as the original phone. The new phone. So from now after one month of usage I received a update but I feel afraid to finalize that update cause my old experience. All I what to know if that version of update called Cat s61. V.1.022.01 Android P. It's ok, I mean have or not bugs. If it's one of update without problems.
I don't know what it's about tool box you tell. All it's about versions of Android update and the time of this update. Unfortunately in October 2019 when I made the update for first phone i have not write down the version of update. All I know about update from October 2019 it's that it's not good. I don't want to repeat this experience.
Thank you
