Youmail!

BUT once you actually have transcriptions of voicemail you simply cannot go back, its just too nice.

This is so true. I don't think folks who haven't tried it really understand.

VVM was like crossing the Mississippi, VM transcription is landing on Mars (and finding that it is populated by lingerie models).

Ive been using youmail for a couple years. When I had my BB I used the app and loved it, then when I got my Eris that was the first app I installed, then my battery life started dropping and my phone was at 100% awake. I uninstalled youmail and my awake time dropped to around 6%. I dont know if they fixed the app or not, but if you're using it, pay attention to the battery that its using.

I also used YM on my Blackberry and honestly didn't think the app in the last several released lacked any polish. YM is a great product and my wife still uses it.

I switched to GV and if you take the time to learn how GV works the only thing GV lacks if your aren't paying for YM is custom/smart greetings. YM lacks a couple of key features for me. Like the way VM will ring all phones before going to VM. The way I have it setup I use my VZW # I have always have. Someone calls it and I can decline the call and then my office phone will ring and I can either pick that up (Let's say for instance I had bad wireless coverage in the office) or I can let it go on to voicemail. I could do the same with a home phone (if I actually had one). GV Transcription does suck but considering it is Free and YM doesn't have the option in the free version this is sort of a moot argument.

The key here is learn GV really well and it will out do YM in features unless you just have to have smart greetings (Like my wife) or transcriptions (and are willing to pay for them. If that's the case YM is a fantastic free visual voicemail app.

You can set custom greetings for individual contacts or groups you set up but its just more of a pain to do, you have to jump through some hoops if you want a funny Spaceballs quote for your wife when she calls. :-)

Although the transcription can really be off sometimes it has never been so bad that I had to actually listen to the message. Most of time you know why somebody was calling in the first place and the rest just kinda falls into place.

True I forgot about custom greetings like that. When I was comparing them I was thinking about the canned/smart greetings Youmail has. That is a cool feature but rolling a call to a different phone before voicemail is cooler.

Without a doubt. I didn't know you could do that.

Here is how to make it work. Go to Settings, Phones, Hit edit under your mobile phone, select advanced settings and choose ring my other phones before going to voicemail.
