Restoring Whatsapp Messages issue

Hello,
I seem to be having issues restoring my old messages to my new google pixel phone. Correct file has been put into Whatsapp database folder but upon loading whatsapp after installing it the option that pops up seems to be defaulting to the Google Drive Backup option rather than the Local Backup option. There does not seem to be an option for you to disable the pop or select the local backup?
I have on a couple of occasions tried to click the 'Give Permission' button and quickly click the restore button but this has failed - Having read online why a restore might not work i saw that that this could be due to the size of the file. I really do need to transfer theses messages to the new phone as work related so would appreciated any suggestions or ideas that people have? I have come across a couple of programs you can download which you pay for.
Thanks

I dont use the Google Drive backup method im afraid

https://faq.whatsapp.com/android/chats/how-to-restore-your-chat-history/

That link seems to explain it all. However, the actual folder location on internal storage may vary from device to device. On my Pixel 5, I don't have a WhatsApp folder on the main root of my internal storage. Instead, my WhatsApp folder is located at:

/Android/media/com.whatsapp/WhatsApp
I will check this out, Thanks.
I think the issue is also not being able to select the local backup restore option over the google drive option. I will try that later and let you know how i get on.

Is it wise to create this "com.whatsapp/WhatsApp" folder before installing Whatsapp then? As remember this folder would only get created once whatsapp is installed but for the restore whatsapp cant already be installed from what I have read.

I have been struggling with the same issue for the past 3 days. And, it doesn't help that each time I delete Whatsapp and try to reinstall and login, it keeps increasing the times between which I can get the code. I have the correct backup on my device but am unable to restore from it. Googled and Googled but there is nothing out there that I can use to extract this local backup from the files. It keeps going to Google drive. I am not sure where on Google drive it is because I do not see anything there. Perhaps I could manually copy the files over there and delete the old ones?
