Slow SD card access, should I upgrade?

Hi, ever since updating to android 11, accessing files in the sd card has become really slow. I know that this is a common issue with the update related to the new file system or whatnot, but I have thousands of photos and image files in my sd card and loading them everytime was a pain in the arse no matter what gallery app I use. I have tried moving all the files to a faster sd card but the difference was negligible, it's still slow. I still hasn't found a proper solution to it. So I'm thinking of buying a new phone with newer, better hardware but,.... would that give me some clear performance upgrade or will sd card access still sucks on android 11 & 12?
Btw, I'm using Realme 6 now.

Have you tried using Google photos app?
It backs up your photos to the cloud and keeps your storage space free

Lol true enough :thinking: especially those flagships, which sometimes looked like they had fewer features than some midrange phone despite the higher specs. With some exception like those xperia that actually still has headphone jack! But if we're talking midrange, then there're still quite a lot of new ones with sd card slot

I have tried it before but, it doesn't have as many features as apps like F-Stop. Besides, I rarely use cloud storage. Usually only for file sharing or temporary backup. they're convenient but I prefer offline backup, especially for private photos and stuff, that's why I still use sd cards.

SanDisk Extreme Pro. Bought it a couple of weeks ago. it says "up to 170mb/s read, 90mb/s write" on the box. I don't know much about microsd cards but that was the fastest one I can get from a nearby shop at that time.
 
Ok well transfer speeds from phone to sd card has nothing to do with the Android OS. That's a pretty decent card and it is new so it's not age or wear and tear.

Unfortunately no matter the speed, the photos and images will take time, especially if you have thousands of them. I don't even think a new phone will help.

Well the problem is, before updating to android 11, loading those photos are pretty quick. Deleting multiple files was fast as well, but now the're just slow. So what I wonder was, if a newer phone with faster cpu will handle android 11/12 better with their new file system. Since my phone was shipped with version 10 originally.

I don't know what phone or tablet you've actually got there. but a faster CPU and more RAM on your device may help. However FYI the file system didn't change with Android 11/12 from Android 10.

? What about that scoped storage stuff? I didn't quite get it but it was implemented in 11 or something, and from what I've read, it effects performance on external storage. And that was indeed what I experienced right after my phone was updated to 11 from 10.

But yeah, maybe I'll look for a new phone. I'm just not sure if the performance gain would worth the upgrade.
 
You can try a gallery app that does not rely on thumbnails.
Thumbnails are those tiny versions of your pics and vids on a gallery menu that let you make your selections.

Most gallery apps make this little versions, and with thousands of them the amount of space (and time) they take can really add up.

Simple Gallery Pro does not seem to store thousands of thumbnails, no does it take a long time to present you with content.
It works well in tandem with Simple File Manager from the same developer.
