The Drone Thread

so apparently the US has classified DJI as a chinese military company.

and law makers are looking to crack down on how chinese companies can circumvent an upcoming bill that would halt any new DJI products in 2025. basically DJI could find a 3rd party and allow them to make and sell a version of their drones and software. the article references a Utah company, Anzu Robotics that are making their version of DJI drones along with "their" version of dji's software.

i'm curious to see how it all plays out, if the DJI ban goes into effect next year.

this looks super cool:

it will not come out until jan 2026. pricing will not be released until it gets closer to the launch date. those googles looks super cool as well as the remote. i am very curious on how they will price these. i am guessing somewhere near $2500, but who knows.

thoughts?

no ban as of yet, but apparently dji drones here in the US are hard to find. but, if dji does not comply with a security audit, ban could be in place by december of this year.

That setup looks outstanding! I wonder how I could get my wife to realize she needs one? :D

The display was the major problem with the DJI drone I owned. The cradle on the controller to connect most all modern phones was two short. Putting the phone in airplane mode to avoid an interruption and trying to see the phone display in full sunlight also proved to be a problem. I finally sold / basically gave away my drone. It was fun but not entertaining enough for me.

so it looks like the star of this new drone is not the drone, the googles, or the controller. it is the software that makes this thing a beast.

here is a much better review:

i can't wait to see what the final product will be like.
