WHAT IS IT WITH THE MOTO G STYLUS?!

Rgarner

Android Expert
I just had another go bad. It was more or less ok earlier and about 1 hour ago it started having a seizure. It hasn't stopped yet. This was about the most expensive I've had, around $130. I mentioned that it seemed to drain somewhat fast and that it got unreasonably hot without being put through its paces. Also, I've been having trouble with DuckDuckGo. It's mainly a particular website but it's been slow on others, requiring frequent reloads, etc. What am I supposed to do with this hunk of junk? Can I get it to behave normally, at least long enough to transfer as much as possible to sd card (1tb)? I am typing this with the Blu, which is supposedly the inferior phone, ha!

No, I haven't. If it happened to be brand new with no data I might risk it. I've had it for maybe a couple months and it's almost 30% full. The 1 tb sd is still almost 50% empty. If I could dump to a computer I would but unfortunately that's not an option...

Turn off all mobile data that is running the apps, go to in each app. Underneath mobile and wifi settings, and toggle it off that will really save it

from overheating.

I can't do that. It's stuck in a bootloop. If I used volume down + power, would that snap it out of it without destroying any data? I'm limited to what I can do with side keys, aoparently.

You do have everything backed up right, is there another device of where you can plug and connect without, have to wait forever to get your apps back?

Yes, I got lucky. I held volume + power for a bit and it showed the fastboot menu. I didn't see the safe option and therefore went with start. It booted up whereupon I checked for damage and found none. However, the phone got stuck in that short bootloop again, more than once, and it was down to no more than 14%. It seems to be ok now, but who knows when it may strike again...

this sounds serious. you really need to do a factory reset. this will answer if this is a software issue or not. my guess is that this is a hardware issue. but, the only way to know for sure is if you do the reset.

Yeah do a factory reset, just basically click on the android and it will say "Erase all data?" volume down and say yes, second menu is "are you sure?" "press yes."

I have rebooted it with fastboot many times using the start option. It still crashes at least once daily. I have had this problem with other Styli. Also, it overheats with minimal provocation, which it is doing right now. What is the least expensive phone with at least 128 gb onboard and 1 tb sd capacity?

The question—“What is the least expensive phone with at least 128 GB onboard and 1 TB SD capacity?”—was asked by a frustrated user on a tech support forum discussing issues with the Moto G Stylus. Based on the surrounding page content, the user is dealing with repeated hardware failures, overheating, and bootloop problems on their Moto G Stylus device. They mention trying to salvage data from a 1 TB SD card and switching to a backup phone (a Blu device), which they ironically call “inferior” despite it working more reliably.

This context suggests the user is looking for a budget-friendly replacement phone that:

  • Has at least 128 GB of internal storage
  • Supports expandable storage up to 1 TB via microSD
  • Is more reliable than the Moto G Stylus

These options are both affordable and compatible with the user’s storage requirements. If reliability is the top priority, the Galaxy A35 5G might be the better pick due to its newer hardware and improved thermal management.

Would you like help comparing battery life or camera quality across these models?

It was doing fine today. I left it for a while. When I returned it was seizing all over the place. I finally got it shut down and I plan to leave it that way tonight. Is anyone else having the same problem with a Stylus piece of junk? Is there some way to fix it?

It's had more bootloop seizures. Now it's claiming that there's an "issue" with the sd card. It was fine until last night. The file app isn't showing it. I shut the phone off partly because I hoped that would fix it. It hasn't. I have removed and reinserted the card multiple times without success. Could the phone's seizures possibly have affected the sd card? What do I do now?

As far as I know that didn't happen. I wish I could put it in a different device and check it. It better be ok. That thing's a 1 tb card. I really don't need to lose that.

Format is the last resort. As Milo pointed out... it will wipe the card clean. It is either a fault of the device or the card. The phone is definitely suspect with all of the problems you are experiencing.

As I have had many problems with stuck side keys, possibly related to my numerous troubles with Styli in particular, I decided to check out ways to unstick them. A swab with rubbing alcohol seems especially popular, but would the tip be small enough and wouldn't it shed? If I could find a very small, thin, flat metal object that miraculously would not break, that could do the trick. There have been reports of success with nail clippers (!?) but I can't imagine how.

Yeah nailclipers ouch, no thanks, if I had my cell like that, perviously I did open up my moto z2 turbo and somehow it did not do anything, but I just did not had an open face sandwich of it,left it alone. I had no issues with the volume up or volume down with the powerbutton what so ever, so ... yeah good luck with that.
