Heart Trauma Recovery

They said that I had A-Fib, after I had the covid, back in 2020. Every time I visited the cardiologist though the EKG didn't pick up any A-Fib abnormalities. Still prescribed that Eliquis, twice a day, also.
This past spring I got tangled up in some briars while cutting them out. The Boss Lady thought I had cut an artery or something.
Heck, I even bled when I got the flu shot a couple weeks ago.

While on Plavix, my bed sheets looked like a scene from The Godfather. I kept a pump bottle of Hydrogen Peroxide topical solution handy to help clean up the messes I made daily. Not only unhealthy as far as I'm concerned, it was embarrassing on many occasions. I would bleed badly and not know it until someone that was freaked out would try to help me. sheesh! It's a high price to pay to be healthy.

Yup I got all of them things.

My groin is a lot more sore this morning, but I can tell the bleeding is slowing down. Usually just rolling over in bed make a couple of the usual suspects start and it did not do that this morning.

Kinda reminds me of the stories I have read about when doctors thought bleeding one was a cure for alot of things ...

I so hope you are on the mend my friend. I'm sure you have had the embarrassing moments like bleeding on someone's furniture. Blood should never be that thin.

I am giving it until Monday to settle down, I just do not feel right. If Monday comes and I do not feel like I have improved i may need a ER visit. Yesterday, I scratched a sore that was the size of a black eyed pea, and it bled for almost an hour. I was close to going then !

They took me off of Eliquis and started Plavix. Eliquis prevents the blood from clotting, (Coagulant), Plavix prevents the platelets (blood cells involved in clotting) from sticking together and forming harmful clots in the arteries.

Supposed to rain today, gonna be a good day to sit at the keyboard or on the couch watching tv ....
I'm fishing for an update.. I sure hope you are seeing some improvement on how you are feeling.

I feel better today but the bleeding seems still to be non stop . Had 4 spots going at once this morning and the wifey is complaining about me bleeding all over the leather couch ....

I got alot to do today, but am going to fire off an email to the cardio people and just let them know I am still bleeding ... alot !

I cut myself this morning pulling the goodies out of our turkey the wife is cooking today. Must have caught a bone in the carcass. It was the first cut I've had in a while and it bled but not ridiculously. I'm still on a slow release aspirin and now know I'm still a bleeder. Nothing like what you are dealing with. I've had it bad but not so bad now. I hope your bleeding backs off. It is hell to bleed everywhere!

Do your wounds heal at a slow rate? My skin is extremely thin and I suffer more surface wounds than cuts. I peeled the skin off of the back of my hand the 6th of November. I injured myself removing my bike rack from my truck so I know the date. The injury is almost healed today. A tiny scab in the middle of the scrape still exists. A typical wound would have healed in a couple of days prior to my heart attack and meds. If I knock that scab off, I would bleed again.

Yah, I heal slowly. Been on the baby aspirin since the heart attacks years ago, I am 70 years old, so my skin is like any other old mans skin, a hematoma waiting to happen !

this morning looks good, everything has a tight scab look and my face did not start bleeding when I washed it this morning.

I have alot to be thankful for this year ... even the bleeding thing !

I look around and realize just how lucky I am. I'm closing in on two extra years of enjoying the world and all of its faults. And the extra time with friends and love ones.... priceless. Enjoy the holiday my friend and I'm glad you are doing better!

I can hardly with for next years round of test ...

It was two years ago tonight that I slammed two McDoubles and a small order of fries. I spent the late night and the early morning hours thinking that meal had given me indigestion / heartburn. By ten am the next day I was in my intensive care room with two stents. I'm very grateful for the extra two years I got and I try not to waste them. I would be in far better shape now if I hadn't assumed and had sought help earlier. Please don't ever be stupid like that. If it doesn't feel right... get help. Please.....

Aren't them learning experiences fun ?

My first H/A was when I was asleep, it woke me up and I knew right away something was not right, I did not necessarily think something was wrong, I just knew something was not right.

I had the classic feeling of an elephant on my chest and since I did not understand what was happening I went back to sleep.
got up the next morning and went to work and the office girls immediately said, "what is wrong with you?"

I said nothing, I did not sleep well last nite and they kept raggin on me until I let one of them take me to the emergency room where they did some testing and advised me I had a heart attack the night before ! ! !

The second one was the pain the shoulder/chest thing and I knew what that meant.

By the time I got to the ER I was almost in full H/A mode.

Yup, not something to take lightly when your body is giving you signs.

I talked with my life long buddy this morning. His wife has had two extreme heart attacks. First stents and then a pig valve. She had a pacemaker and then a defibrillator implant. They have an upgrade ICD (implantable cardioverter defibrillator) and a dual chamber pacemaker they plan to install next month. Her ejection fraction is setting at 19... ouch. I thought mine was in the dirt at 25 last Feb. As my friend said... at least her health is good enough for the procedures. She was on her death bed with health so fragile that they were afraid to do the valve replacement last year. Miraculously her heath improved enough in the 11th hour to attempt the operation that was successful.
You think you are in bad shape until you hear another's story. I wish her well. She's a sweet person.

I recently purchased a three pack of high dollar compression socks. They are made from 63% viscose made from bamboo fibers, 29% polyester, 5% Elastane, and 3% nylon. Wello is the brand name and though they feel tight to begin with, they provide support and comfort the entire day without discomfort. I like the way they make my legs feel and I like the color of my toes after a long day. I highly recommend these sock though they are thirty bucks a pair. If you need to wear them, it's a small price for the comfort.

I saw my cardiologist... or his registered nurse assistant Friday. My Dr. was away seeing about his mother who had suddenly taken ill. The nurse was pissed because I didn't have the ICD implant that was recommended a year ago. I told her that was a year old echo and I debated the implant but decided against it. She told me that my next heart attack, which would likely happen, would not be a go to the emergency room attack but a sudden failure that I would just check out from. I didn't appreciate her bedside manner but I'm sure she had my health in mind with her advice. Anyway, I am now scheduled for a stress test and another echo in August prior to my next visit. I guess she might have been alarmed at my refusal of the procedure but another six months before we see if you still need a defibrillator is okay. Sometimes I wonder what exactly the agenda is.

I had blood drawn this morning for a lab. The gal that drew my blood did far better than anyone in the past three years. However, a few hours later I noticed a golf ball under the skin of my arm. It was new to me so I ran back to my Dr's office and asked what's up. I guess it is common to have a hematoma with a blood draw but it was a first for me. The swelling has subsided leaving tenderness and some bruising. Something new every day. :)

I was just in for a heart cat scan and the blood withdrawal left my entire elbow area black and blue.

I got one of these awhile back and it is doing the job, cardio has called me twice to ask me if I am ok because it is reporting pausing in my heartbeats.

That's cool and small. I like the idea of it reporting a glitch in the heartbeat. The ICD they want to implant in me is about the size of a 1950s Samsonite suitcase. :) Seriously, the one they showed me was larger than these numbers I grabbed off of the net, 3.27 x 2.72 x 0.5 inches, and that seems huge.

It seems that as we age, the questions that arise are almost always difficult. I'm grateful for the thoughtful input as you're sharing your journeys.
Stay healthy (and good luck to your friend's wife, Olbriar).

Forgive me for not updating the condition of my friend's wife. She had the procedure and new implant and is doing well. I don't know what her ejection fraction is but my buddy said she is doing very good. I've not asked for and no details have been shared. Telling me that she is doing well has to suffice and I'm very happy for that. She has been on death's doorstep a number of times. She is a figher!

Ahh technology. It does nothing when everything is running fine, it only makes reports when something is amiss.

I have a blood pressure machine/band that uses an app on my phone to send in blood pressure test ... when I can remember to do them.

Supposed to do a check everyday, sometimes I get caught up in life and forget, then I get an email from cardio, "it's been 2 days since you checked your blood pressure !"

I miss a day now and then for taking my BP. For the most part, I take it after taking my pills of an evening. I try to do that between nine and nine thirty. I sometimes forget that until I'm ready for bed. My meds keep my BP in the decent range most of the time. Once in a great while it will be elevated. Monitoring my BP was the sole reason I bought my Galaxy Watch 3.

The lie continues... from the net: Released on August 5, 2020, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 is a stylish, feature-rich smartwatch available in 41mm and 45mm sizes (Bronze, Black, Silver) featuring a physical rotating bezel, ECG, blood pressure monitoring, and fall detection.

It was never approved in the US but was in almost all other countries. To enable the BP function, the watch owner had to participate with a study in California. I was pissed! I had a perfectly fine Samsung watch already. I log my BP as I said but I don't send the info to my Dr. I keep the log on my phone and show it to them when they suggest I need a stronger med. It's always elevated when taken by the Dr. but the log cools their jets.
