Rant Thread - What really grinds your gears?

Today I was tasked to copy all of the photos off of my wife's phone (Samsung S8) Try as I might I could not connect it to my pc. I have five USB to C cables and none of them trigger a choice beyond charging when connected. I have multiple USB ports at on my PC and tried each of them in turn without any luck. I haven't given up but I'm not having anything work.

One of two things have happened.

Either they got in and crashed the site or the host pulled the plug, the site is off line this morning.

the host has been using the excuse that their servers are under major DDoS attacks, I advised the owner that is not our problem, we have them beating on our door. Let the host work out his issues, we need to secure the site as best as we know how. He is very much against banning IP's, guess we will see where it goes from here.

A new USB to C cable was the answer to my file transfer problems. I was guessing that was the problem but thought it odd that out of five cables, one never used, at least one of them would trigger the data transfer option.

Had a Comcast tech at the house one time and he says, have you tried another Ethernet cable. I look at him and in my mind I am thinking, "you dumazz, with my computer expertise you want me to blame a patch cable?"

Although I did not say it aloud, it was hard not to. I changed the Ecable and the dang thing started working again.

The more I learn the less I know ...

Oh and my buddies site is still down.

I received my 2026 property appraisal today. My property tax is based upon the appraisal. My little 3 bedroom bungalow increased in value 21K over the 2025 appraisal. Good luck trying to sell this property for their inflated value.

You work all your life to pay the bank off, for your house note, then you have to pay the county off every year for the privilege to live there

The tax levy has increased and the property value has increased over a 100k. It seems a bit unfair to be so expensive to live in a seventy year old house that is falling apart.

My sciattica has been flaring up but I did meds, heating pads and plenty of sleep, I slept prety much most of the day.

We have the option to "contest" the increase every year.

It is a short 2 week window, and if you miss it, too bad Charlie, see yah next year.

Most get a decrease of the increase alleged value.


You realize that if your neighbor paints his house this year, the entire block gets accessed for an increase, for the next year ?

Try an go to the bank for a large loan and present your tax evaluation as evidence you are worth it ....

I have heard of people wanting to build on a lot and the bank denied the loan because the "hood" was not worth the price of the home.



Who put these kinda people in charge ?

We have the chance to challenge the appraised property value as well. I've never been though the process but understand it's a hit and miss proposition.
