Extra battery

i think li-ions like pretty much all batteries loose charge over time- but i think they are much better than older chemistries (nicd's were terrible - i seem to recall lossing 10% of the remaining charge every day off charge... ).

So I think it's measured in like weeks if not months of sitting around before anyone would notice a significant amount of discharge from a modern Li-ion cell phone battery.

this site seems to say you would lose 90% of a fully charged battery stored around room temperature for a year. ->
How to prolong lithium-based batteries

So apparently it's BAD for batteries to be charged and saved/stored for later use.

I know that website says it's perfectly fine to charge a partially discharged battery, but I'm wondering about a specific application I have...

I have a charger that's meant as a stand/charger for Xbox 360 controllers. This company came up with batteries that don't need metal contact to charge, you just set them on this cradle and it charged. So if I leave a controller on that for several days straight...pull it off and use it for like two hours, and throw it back on - will that damage the battery? - sitting on the charger for so long after it's charged.

you need to poke around some more- but the way I understand it is Li-Ion and NiMH both love to be topped off.

Nicd's suck and have memory and should not be "topped off"

If it's modern I'd guess the xbox charger thinkie is NiMH and so it's fine.

There are two different packages. Verizon's only comes with the holder and no charger so they can sell it separately and get a higher margin. Motorola's will come with one but probably won't be sold at Verizon stores.
the moto package will probably be more than 29 bucks...my guess would be 39 bucks
Question for you guys.

Let's say you get an extra battery... and charge it to full...

but don't use it for awhile and just keep it somewhere ready to go.

How long will the charge just sit there on the battery?

they will lose a little charge but nothing really noticable. i have a spare for my storm that i carry(a sickness i know) and rarely use it...it's just comforting...i swap them out every few weeks to keep them both happy.

They are actually lithium batteries...I just worry about leaving them sitting in the charger ALL the time. It's not really the top-off charging so much as the sitting in the cradle for a week straigth.

there is a external battery charger for the droids battery. i have a list and pics of all the confirmed accessories. and trust me theres alot.

IMO you have nothing to worry about. Also when it comes to cell phone batteries again there is nothing to worry about. I have been using my method of charging for years and my batteries are GREAT. As stated above I popped in my batter at 11am this morning and it is now 1:45AM with fully daily use of texting, calling, calculator, games, etc etc and I still have 43% battery left (battery is over 2 years old). Sometimes when I know i'll be out REALLY late I will take out the battery and charge it even if its at lets say 30% juice just to make sure it will be fully charged the next day. I have been using the same 2 batteries for atleast the last 2 years charging them in every way possible including leaving them charging for up to 3 days, charging them when they are only fully/half/barely used, and running them bone dry even once in a while. With 2 batteries and only 24 hours in a day there is nothing to worry about with this method. Besides, if worst comes to worst you get a crappy battery and you go and buy another for $14 after a few years. :)

Edit: the only thing I do try to do is pull out the charging plug once I see that the light is green (fully charged) I know it shouldn't matter since the charger has resistors and what not but it's just a OCD thing I do. On the same note as stated above I have left batteries charging for days and they are still great!

Any release dates yet? I prefer to state completely OEM. I would like a moto external battery charger as well as a moto car charger, as well as a moto spare battery. I find on my palm when I spend the little extra money on the OEM I run into no problems
