Public Service Announcement [NEW? PLEASE READ]

You'd sabotage your own I.Q. test with that post, on grammar, puctuation and spelling, not to mention a spectacularly naive assumption about forum members.

We won't bother to get into the differences between intelligence quotient and forthright seeking of knowledge in a forum such as this one.

I've seen the multiple postings of threads asking the same, or similar, questions repeatedly; the mistake is not one of intelligence, but one of impatience, the kind of impatience that causes members, new and older, to post a new thread rather than do a search in a forum.

It's everywhere and it has nothing to do with the relative intelligence of the people doing it.

Nice work, my friend.

In my defense, the search did not come up with anything.... but I was posting in the updates and cupcakes subforum (oops!).

 :D

While I agree that it can be annoying to see the same topics brought up in new threads over and over again, we need to remember that many of these folks are brand new, maybe haven't been on a forum before and are just trying to get informed about their new phones. Also, sometimes searching, if you don't use specific enough search terms, can bring up a huge list of matches, many of which are unhelpful.

To be useful (sticky-worthy) the OP should add links to the full answers after the emphatic "NO!" Then, a link to this post could be used when each questions arises.

:)

Exactly!

What's the point of linking to the threads, it's a simple answer that I am already providing.

The purpose of this forum is to share information. That information is free to all. There are specific rules against the typical "Use the Search" response for a reason, it isn't helpful. While I can certainly understand the idea behind this thread as well as the intentions, it won't work the way you want it to. New members that create such threads as this is intended to prevent will typically not take the time to read a sticky anymore than they will be to search the forum. If you don't want to answer the "same old same old" question from a new member, then don't. Skip it and move on to the next. Another member will usually be more than happy to answer it. The whole reason I am apposed to something like this becoming a sticky is that it makes the members here appear to be rather stand-offish or elitist. Something I know that you are not.

I would like to remind some of the more negative of you in this thread that everyone was new at some point. If you used the search for every question that came to mind, then kudos to you. The rest of us didn't and others won't either. The zero tolerance policy applies to all.

Exactly. It seems nowadays, most forums "Search" function is wholly inadequate to get the direct answer someone needs.

I tried searching for the "Must Have Apps"(Probably should be stickied and all of the "favourite" app threads need to be merged into that thread and stickied) thread and it came up with a lot of different results that had nothing to do with my search, until I finally found it.

This is in response to the thousands of posts spamming every thread I've seen in the past few weeks. I hope that this will help cut down people having to re-answer the most basic questions over and over again.

Mods, sorry if you feel like I'm trying to do your job or something, I'm not at all. I'm sure other members are getting annoyed at the lack of search and dumb, basic questions being posted every day too. Please delete if you feel necessary. Trying to avoid this all over:
