Former iPhone users.. are you pleased?

Seriously, has the world gotten THAT lazy? lol. I'm sorry there isn't a designated button (in my personal exeperience, would get somehow switched to vibrate/viceversa in my pocket) that does only ONE thing instead of clicking a button 3 times. A whole .7 seconds difference lol.

That's actually worse than the widget. You still have to power on the phone, unlock it, then hold the power button and choose a setting.

With your widget, you still have to power on, unlock, and slide to the designated screen, then press the 'widget.

My idea seems easier AND I didn't have to download a widget lol.

Just found on another thread:

No Lock - Android app on AppBrain

Love this. Takes away the lock screen and you can re-activate the phone out of 'sleep' by using one of the volume rocker keys.

Obviously though, you lose security features that way, but the quick start, no dragging the taskbar unlock thing is awesome.

Again, I kinda like the way Android seems to offer solutions to many of our quibbles, unlike the Apple App Store which seemed more strict and nothing was really allowed to screw with the key features. But of course, the quality of some of these apps will differ greatly and could cause issues.

It's not a matter of lazy, it's a matter of speed. And you don't have to click a button three times on the Evo. You have to click a power button. Then swipe an unlock bar. Then click a button three times.

I'm constantly going from vibrate to loud when at work and it's kind of a big deal. Not a "deal-breaker" by any means, just something I'm pointing out as a shortcoming, which it is.

So far I really like the device. It has its quirks here and there but i enjoy the customization and just how big the screen is. However im still struggling to get my music looking like it did on my iphone. I had all the album artwork and it was nice to scroll through it. I still havent found something to do it easily on my evo. any suggestions?

I use Mediamonkey. It works wonder for me. Album art and all!!!!!!!

Dumped my iPhone 3G and I am loving the EVO. There are a few apps I miss, but no big deal. My 3g sold for just over $200 on Ebay, so all is good! It is very quick compared to my old 3G. I can actually get a signal in my house now.

I'm sorry. I can't help but giggle at your situation and how much that actually bugs you.

Do you complain if you're getting into someone's car which doesn't have power locks and you have to wait for them to unlock your door?

What a ludicrous analogy. For someone that is constantly going from silent to ringer, a hardware switch is very convenient. That's the reason you find them on lots of phones. The guy said it's not a deal-breaker. I'm amazed at how sensitive people are if someone states anything negative about their precious phone.

I think it's crazy to call someone lazy for expecting that feature. These phones cost atleast $1880 over 2 years to operate. ($70/mo x 24 + $200). I am shocked by any phone that doesn't have that switch. That was one of my favorite pieces of hardware on the iPhone and I think every phone should adopt it, and I view each one that doesn't as a downfall.

These are expensive luxury devices, it's not lazy to expect that switch which the iPhone has had for 3 years. Especially when some people will interact with that function multiple times every single day.

I guess other phone companies don't care what Apple had for 3 years lol. It must not be THAT much of a deal to the majority for them to not add one. I think the Pre and iPhone are the only ones with a dedicated switch. Personally, I used the toggle when walking up to work and walking out of work. For me to push a button to turn it on, swipe, hold power button and press Silent ... isn't that big of a deal, nor is it using up VALUABLE time lol. If a half a second wasted is a waste of your time or not quick enough ... I feel bad for you.

I don't look at it as a shortcoming or calling it a 'downfall' lol.

There are apps that can automaticly set your volume and other settings when in...

Different locations
Or
Different times

only time i experience any lag is when another app is loading in background...wifi 4g etc...or a webpage thats still loading. its also easy to confuse lag with the screen doing exactly what ur finger is doing. sometimes i think its lag but i realize im not making smooth-tempoed swipes and the evo picks up on that...i dont think this phone is for everyone bc of its size, but functionality and openess cannot be beat

Your avatar is awesome...isnt that the boxing game from nintendo??? I'm trying to remember...

I got the EVO on Friday morning and had my Iphone 3G sold the next day. After being with the Iphone for 2 years, jailbreaking, etc.. I just needed a fresh OS and the EVO provides that. Granted this is still the honeymoon period, I dont see where I am missing any features on the Iphone, without finding a suitable replacement on EVO.

Although, I am really missing my Golf GPS app from the Iphone. I hope it comes to Andriod soon, along wth ESPN sports score app.. Other than those two apps, I'm very happy with my EVO..

I went to a friend's graduation open house yesterday and pulled the phone out to check my email and instanly had a crowd around me asking what is that and how nice it looked!!

I converted from the iPhone 3GS and had beta OS 4 on it... OS 4 will solve *some* issues with the iPhone but not all and it still wont come close to the functionality of the EVO...

What I love about the EVO:

-- Massive screen (sweet)
-- Widgets (revolutionary)
-- Speed (it's very, very snappy)
-- A battery that I can actually remove
-- Open source
-- HTC Sense is gorgeous
-- The camera WITH flash.... Sweetness
-- Lower Sprint prices and better plans
-- App store... If I don't like an app I purchased I have 24 to get a refund... NICE

I had no idea you could refund an app. That is one thing I hate with my iPhone. Buying an app and it being complete crap.

I can't wait to get my EVO.

album art wizard works great.it'll search for all your album art and if there's still some missing after the search it'll give you more options so you can select another image that you like.it's in the market place.not free though.you can download it and get all your album art then get a refund before the 24hrs are up.its better to just keep it because it does come in handy.

I will miss the email client (full html emails, zoomed out correctly)

and Safari (android stop resizing where I just zoomed in)

Other than that I am loving every minute

oh ya and angry birds, but I can still play that on my iPad.

I.don't like the non smooth scrolling, the non multitude keyboard, web zooming or auto correct. Also when I hold the phone certain ways I lose a lot of reception. Other than that I like it, and if I can fix that stuff ill keep it

lol don't kid yourself. You know deep down inside you are going to want the new iPhone come monday ;)

Had the iphone 3g for 2 years. Finally got off the apple koolaid. This phone remedies all the things that for me represented weaknesses of the iphone. I love my EVO 4G so much.

I feel so liberated. I had a Samsung flip before the iphone, and that switch was amazing to me at the time. Going from the iphone to the EVO 4G feels like it was just as big of a leap.

There are things i like more on the iphone still (such as better games, the HP12C calculator, and SMS popups), but so far I am feeling that the EVO 4g is a much better match for me.

If you want SMS pop ups use Handcent.

I'm loving the EVO so far and so is my wife.

The main thing that is really bugging me is the keyboard. It doesn't seem quite as responsive as the iphone... I feel like it misses keys occasionally. I could really fly one the iphone keyboard.

Perhaps i need to try some alternatives. Any out there that have a skin that would mimic the iphone layout? :P

Not sure about the iPhone layout, but swype is one of the best keyboards imo. You just slide your finger over the letters and swype does a great job in figuring out the words. And if you feel like typing each letter, it allows that as well.

That's actually worse than the widget. You still have to power on the phone, unlock it, then hold the power button and choose a setting.

So far it's one of my only complaints about the hardware itself.

The recessed power button to unlock is the only other. The round hard button on the iPhone to unlock was much more intuitive and easy to unlock with one hand. This seems to be a general failing of all Android-based phones for some reason. Having to hit the recessed power button then adjust grip to swipe and unlock is kind of annoying, but I suppose I'll get used to it.

Try downloading "NoLock", free in the Market. Turns the phone on with either the power button, or either of the volume buttons. Also eliminates the "swype" screen.

Try "Anysoftkeyboard", or if you really want to try something cool, PM me about Swype.

the reception in my area stinks. One bar when I'm outside the reception is ok. I get full bars in most places and the calls are ok. The device itself is really solid. I'm having a problem finding the missing sync in the market place via the device. Anyone have any ideas?
