Real talk: I'm going to return my Evo

This may be a repost but is anyone ever going to figure out the the new $10 premium is NOT just for 4g service. According to Sprint this charge is applied because the true nature of the EVO is....you guessed it, DATA USAGE. This was bound to happen sooner or later with sprint no matter if 4g was introduced or not. And this phone is still incredible quick on 3g and WiFi.

Just for the hell of it I'm going to hammer on my phones battery tonight. If it lasts more than two hours after unrelenting battery torture, I'm going to have to call bullocks.

P.s. I know it will seeing as it hadall weekend including launch day.

Sent from my HTC Evo 4G using Tapatalk Pro.

yeah, i'm sorry op; i'm also calling bs, or at least some incredible hyperbole. 2 hrs?! c'mon.

i also don't see the point in announcing that you're not happy with something when you're clearly not looking for a solution. i think you're just trying to fire everybody up. kudos.

OP, it seems to me that your 4G radio is defective. 4G is going to drain your battery when it is constantly looking for signal. And if you are getting lower speeds with 4G compared to 3G, then my best guess is that your 4G radio is not working properly.

This also explains why you are not getting good battery results.

Bottom line for me is I don't want to constantly fiddle with my phone to keep it working. I don't want to turn 4G or Wifi on if I'm going to use the internet. I dont want to turn on BT before i get into my car. I dont want to have to kill processes so that my phone will make it through the day. i just want it to be available when I need it.
Are you freakin' serious?

It takes 15 seconds to turn on Bluetooth and have it pair with your phone when you're walking to the car, by the time you get there it's already on and ready.

It takes one click to turn on Wifi or 4G.

You're just lazy.

I agree this phone is BEAUTIFUL but the battery life SUCKS BALLS! and i cannot get 4G at all! Today i tool my charge off the phone at 6am and it was dead by 10am so far i had to charge it twice! and this is with light usage (text, web and 2 phone calls).

Also OP, I need you to check one thing for me:

Go into the battery info from the menu and settings.

I need you to check the awake time and up time.

If they are both the same, then your phone is not sleeping. This is a bad thing and it is because you have installed something that is not letting the phone sleep.

We all can help you if you post things for us that will allow us to help you.
Some people will just criticize, but some like me are trying to help.

Please post the battery info

I can see how you could call it lazy, but I'm typically carrying a laptop, briefcase, and whatever else to/from my car. I don't have enough free hands. I just want to leave it on, in my pocket, and connect automatically.

I love the phone, i really do. I just can't get it to last long enough. They charge you a $10 premium because of all the extra data usage, but if you try and use the phone enough to justify the $10 it runs out of juice. :(

Also, FYI to people crying "iPhone fanboy", you are setting the bar pretty low for yourselves by going that route and hating back at the people having troubles with this device. If you don't think they are having legitimate issues then just ignore them, don't be part of the troll-problem.

Well, at least for me, battery issue isn't a problem with the Evo. I can't think of any phone that would last a super long time if Bluebooth and everything were left on 24/7.

Eh there is also the likelyhood that since he is in an area that sucks in signal quality, his phone is constantly searching for signal and thus using that much more battery. It may not seem like it drops to 0 bars, but it probably does. My HTC Touch Pro does the same thing in low signal areas and will die within 4 hours. If I have good signal, I can last a whole day without charging (roughly 6am-9pm).

I don't know what the F you guys are doing with your phones. I left for work at 6:45am this morning at 100%. Had 3G, BT, GPS, and WifI on all day. I sent about 15-20 texts, surf some, downloaded 2 apps from market, made about 7-8 short phone calls (5-10min), did one 3-5min Fring session with my wife to Skype during lunch and now I'm sitting at home with the phone battery level clocking in at exactly 25%.

Phone was not plugged in one time all day.

Carry an extra battery.

That's rich really. I get five hours shutting everything off. This is a real deal killer. Popping off the plastic back and installing a forty dollar battery everyday is embarrising.

This phone has overshot and can't deliver. It's going back. I was really looking foward to it.

For all of you I hate AT&T and the drops but at the middle of the day I have a dead phone.

Good luck.

Ok, I understand the need to have a battery last. I do not have access to charging during chunks of my day and it is very inconvienent in some job situations. So his argument there is well justified. Like I mentioned earlier, give it a little more time. My Hero changed a lot after a couple weeks????

Some people have mentioned here you need to do several cycles of charging before the battery will work at its best. If you do return the phone ask them if you can keep your current battery also so you can compare the new with the old.

I know you dont want to carry an extra battery around and all that. But do you really want to pay more money every month? I know a lot of people are willing to bite the bullet and pay more for AT&T, and the iPhones are great too, just not worth about 30-50 per month extra depending on plans and data usage. I hate AT&T enough for the total lack of ability to get anything right with me when I have had them for other stuff, to justify giving them $360-$600 per month more per year for a phone.

THe iPhone is not even remotely an option for me due to hating AT&T, so just as I would not consider it, you have every right to not want the Evo. To each his own.

for you. mine's been absolutely great.

I've done everything here to maximize battery life, and even though san antonio is blanketed with 4g, I get no service on my phone. I can't pay the premium for 4g that I'm not getting, and playing with my phone more than 2 hours off the charger will kill it.

I really really really like the phone, but this is just unacceptable.

Back to the iPhone...

I'm with you....wait no I'm not. Can I have your stuff? :D

If the phone isnt for you for any reason then thats fine. You can decide you dont like the color of the LED. But when a person comes into a EVO message board and just wants to rip a phone yet doesnt want to take the suggestions of good people taking the time to give advise i have no sympathy for them. In fact i think they are just trolling. The OP didnt want advise on how to make his phone better. Because when he got that advise all he did was insult and argue. Oh yea and he kept mentioning how much better the iphone was.

If you dont like something about the phone and dont want to keep it that fine. Honestly their is no point in telling us. We dont care. If you want advise about an issue you are having and want to see if others are having the same issues then come here and tell us.

Otherwise....have fun on your iphone...seriously....have fun.

This is real talk thread right?

I appreciate what your saying but this is not about "not liking some thing on the phone". This is about not being able to use it.

Seems like a troll to me, I get 12 hours out of it on an average day with moderate use and thats not until it dies that's just until the battery hits 40% and I switch it out with my other battery (preserves battery life).

The only way he could be getting 2 hours out of it is if it or the battery was defective but he chooses to come here and promote the iphone instead of taking the phone into a Sprint store and get another one?

Yep. Guess its back to paying the premium for the iPhone for you then. Meanwhile iPhone doesn't even have 4g nor is it capable so I don't see how that will solve your problem.

In case yall didn't know 4g is new technology, its not just gonna have the coverage of 3g overnight

I'm going to jump on the EVO battery life sucks ass band wagon. My Instinct with its 3 year old batteries still gets better battery life then the EVO and I used the Instinct a lot threw out the day to play music, text and serf.

At least the Instinct CAME with two batteries and and an external charger. :(

I pretty much have everything off I can shut off too. My EVO just hates me I guess.

Just ordered some $10 dollar two battery and a charger thingy off eBay. Even if those batteries suck, if they get 2 3rd's there listed claimed mah, hey at least its extra batteries and a external charger right?

What premium are you referring to? Growing weary of this.

AT&T and sprint are 99$ all u can eat. 30$ for iPhone 10$ for evo.
Take the 20$ premium and go get 3 big mac meals ok?

The 4 g tests that I did in Atlanta are revealing. 3 g speed was quite good. And 1/2 time better than 4 g.

Remember 4 g is a marketing term big mac.

So let me get this straight. you made 10 minutes of phone calls and such and lost 75% of your battery ?!!!

WTF ? Is what I say.

my family is on att. my iphone plan is cheaper than me on the evo.

my city is covered in 4g, and I have no problem getting it on my clear usb modem, however, my phone doesn't get it.
