Is there a way to stop my text messages appearing in my status bar and on my unlock screen? All I want is an icon and a sound!
 
What kind of phone do you have? I have a Moto Droid and I don't have a message on my unlock screen. Where do you want the Icon to be? I get an icon, a sound and my LED light blinks when I have a message.

Handcent (free from the Market) will do this for you.

I have it set to make the sound, flash the light and show only an icon in the status back, you can even have different colour icons for several different people so you know without reading who it's from.

It has a ton of other customisations too and is a great sms handler.
 
Thanks. Have briefly tried handcent before but didn't realise you could customise it that much! How do you get the different coloured icons for different people? Like the sound of that!
 
Open a msg from someone, at the top right of the screen you'll see a 'Cog & Person' icon, press that, Notification settings, 5th item down is the Notification Icon setting.

This is BRILLIANT!!!! I didn't know you could do this - and I've had the app for about 3 months! I'm just wondering what else there is that I'm yet to find???

(Only thing is, I'm the sort of person that deletes messages when I've read them, so that means to configure all my contacts with a different colour I'll have to wait until they text me....). :cool:
 
I love the app, definately in my top two.

I tend to leave my most commonly used contacts in there cos it's just easier to send messages rather than start a new thread, just way too lazy lol.

Took me a while to find all the settings too.
 
Handcent is such an awesome app, so much better than the stock sms.

Got it customised to the hilt.

Edit to say probably my favourite app.
 
yea HANDCENT is awesome. cudnt find option to set diff tone for reminders for msgs.
the original msg tone itself is played for the reminders also, after the specified time. so m using missed reminder for tht action.
