Gmail App vs HTC Mail App

So I downloaded and installed the Vanilla Droid Email app, and I love the layout and feel of it. But..... (I know, nothing is ever good enough) .....once again there are no green unread count notifications, and it is not push either. It checks the server every "5 minutes" (even though I never had a test mail arrive till a good 10-15 minutes after). But overall it's still a better layout.
Wish I were a developer. I'd take what they made and work on it myself.

I wish htc mail app widget would do push then it would be perfect for me
i dont like the way gmail app displays pictures, all boxes with blue icon till you scroll
all the way down then images are there. messed up when images have text with them then everything is all f-ed up
htc mail displays them proper and is more like viewing on pc
Anyone use htcmail app? how is it on battery? whats best setting for send/recieve?
if I have to I will just set it for hourly and wait for emails then, rather wait a few then have the viewing all f-ed up

Maybe I'm misunderstanding this. I have 3 Gmail accounts and 4 other email addresses that can all be checked from one Gmail account. I don't have to switch back and forth. I get all email from all 7 email accounts.
If this is what you're after.....on your pc go to your favorite Gmail account.
Go to Settings, Accounts and Import, then you can change settings to "Send Mail as" and "Check Mail Using POP3".

I know how to do that, but have no desire to intermix my inboxes. As if they aren't cluttered enough already.
I just don't understand why in creating the software they would leave out such minor yet useful details. I'm still suffering withdraw from my iPod Touch. No matter how much I love my Incredible and Android, Apple did a better job at most of the apps.

I've been using the HTC Mail App for my gmail through exchange from day 1. I get full HTML email as well. I get my mail, at longest, within ~30 seconds of receiving it in Gmail (almost instantaneously on most occasions) and get outstanding battery life. If this isn't true push, It's just as good.
Settings I use are "as items arrive" with using the exchange settings on this page.

I did this for one of my accounts, and it does work very well. Is there a way to set up 2 accounts for Active Sync? I set up my one account, but every time I go to set up the second one it wont let me do it as ActiveSync (I think).
Works well except the download doesn't work

The HTC Mail client only supports one. The Droid Email client will support multiple accounts, but I am still running into the whole "what is so difficult about putting an unread count bubble on an app as default" question.
To follow up my own post, I see this is actually not true. I thought it was at first, but now I see that messages are showing up both in the Gmail app and in the Gmail account I set up in the regular Mail app.
Unfortunately, the Incredible only supports 1 exchange account.
you can't download attachments....there's many postings!!!!

Sorry, I didn't understand what you were referring to with your post.
That's not true at all. With Gmail through exchange, you should be able to download all attachments without any problem. I've never had any issues with this or viewing HTML email.
For those that are complaining about having to switch from Gmail icon and HTC mail for multiple email accounts, I just got an update notification for K-9 and it now has 'Integrated Inbox'. And under the new settings you can color code the left side "bar" so to speak so that at least you'll know the email is from which email account.
K-9 pulls my emails A LOT faster than the stock HTC Mail ever does. At least 5-10mins faster. I have both on one of my DI screens and K-9 notification/vibrate comes up everytime faster.
Maybe this helps all you guys out now??
The only pet peeve I have about K-9 is the program icon. I wish you could change it, but other than that, K-9 is the best email app out there I can think of

Maybe I'm not understanding you fully, but I have two mail accounts configured in the HTC Mail app. When I compose an email, at the very top of the screen it says "From: <Account name>". Tapping on that I get a "Select account" pop-up window, and I can choose which account to send the mail from.
Ok, dumb question I know, but where do I push this via ADB to my phone? Does it go in /data/local or just my /sdcard and use Astro to install it?
I've placed the email.apk (MotoDroid version from that link) in my c:\android\tools folder

In the Gmail settings, not on the phone but in Gmail itself on the PC, you can specify another email address as your "Send as" address so everything you send from this account comes through as being from that other address. So in Gmail on the PC or the Gmail app when I send an email it comes through as first.last@company.com but on the HTC app it comes through as first.last@gmail.com.

Argh! I have the same issue with my Sprint HTC Hero. It keeps making the email notification sound over and over every time it checks for new email and there is already unread email in the inbox. This all started after I updated to Android 2.1.
Has anyone found a workaround for this problem? I really like the stock HTC email app other than this problem!

Have the exact same problem as you. And that was the reason I ditched the HTC mail app. I now use the Gmail app for both personal and work accounts, which has its own problems.
I am finding that my phone won't stay connected to the server contentiously.... therefore "push" mail isn't the case... it is only when I open the HTC mail app does it work. I just left a HTC Touch Pro 2 and it worked like a champ... faster than gmail on a browser. And I DO have it set to "as items arrive" for both peak and non peak... I'm seeing messages arrive 30 min late... on the top of the phone when it is "synced" the arrows in a circle show the sync... this goes away once the phone goes to sleep...
