I know the specs list 260min or so talk time but for people who have one how is the battery? Do you find you can make it through a whole day without charge or is this a phone that needs a charger at work too?

New Eris owner. Happy with the phone functionality but battery life is a killer. Dies after full day of use limited talking. Do I need 3G turned on? Can I shut down wifi? What other apps are battery killers? Any help appreciated.
 
You need a program like task killer (free) to close those programs that are running. For instance; footprints, Google talk and many other programs spontaneously start running to get a fix on your location. I have sprint hero and Sprint nav automatically start running even when I don't want it to. At this point there is no permanent fix That I know of but I'm pretty sure there will be soon
 
I used mine yesterday full time and it was almost empty at the end of the day. I'm guessing I need something like a task killer app to shut down the apps I'm not using.
 
Make sure Bluetooth is not on if you are not using it. I have a tendency to keep the BT on so that when I get in the car it syncs up. But it was sucking battery life something fierce.

I put the BT toggle on one of my home screens so it's easy to access.
 
Yeah task killer is a must with the Eris IMO!!! Even with task killer working on my phone I get about a 5 hour charge on it.
 
I drained the phone completely last night (where it shut iteslf down) left it on the charger for 10 hours. Took it off at 9am this morning and by noon it was dead again. Not sure if I have a bad battery or what?? But the battery so far (for me) is horrid. I have owned BlackBerry's for years so I don't expect much when it comes to batteries but this surprised me.
 
You have to have a bad battery or phone...mine's lasting like a day and a half.

A day and a half? That's fantastic! I have absolutely no problem with charging my phone every night, in fact it's just become "common" for me to do so... so if the Eris can EASILY make it through a full day, I will be a very happy camper :)

And that was with WiFi and Bluetooth enabled, but probably no more than ten or so phone calls. I'm going to start turning off WiFi even at home...it's just not that much faster than 3G. You might also look into one of the "Task Killer" apps to make sure things you have running unnecessarily are always closed down.

The owner's manual says talk time is 214 minutes and standby time is 373 hours, but I'm sure that's with nothing running and the phone in standby. But still, you should be doing better than you are. With today's smartphones I think charging every night is normal.
 
Is there a better/bigger battery to buy? I unplugged my phone at 8:00 (100% charge) this morning, came to work. Have barely been using it - 2 calls and checked e-mail twice. Had task killer killing all sorts of shit. And I'm still at 59% at 11:13 AM. WTF. At this rate it'll be dead by 5pm and I have barely touched it.

Or is my battery just junk?
 
Don't know if this will help or not, as I just got my phone today, but I'm wondering if there is a "2 or 3 full charge then discharge phase" required on the battery.

I have read that the newer batteries do not need to be "seasoned" anymore, but while looking on the web for a bigger battery option I've seen some talk of doing a 2 or 3 cycle before the replacement battery achieves full capacity.

BTW, I have yet to find a better battery anywhere online.
 
So here is a major problem for me - I've decided to go through my phone and piece together my battery progression and activity.


8:00 - 100% - Unplugged and went to work
8:28 - ??% - Called Sister, lasted 1 minute 34 seconds
9:14 - ??% - Called mother, lasted 1 minute 08 seconds
10:11 - 79% -
11:09 - XX% - Between 11:09 and 11:53 Sent 4 Texts, Received 2
11:53 - 59% -
11:53 - XX% - Between 11:53 and 1:40 Sent 2 Texts, Received 4
1:40 - 31% -
1:47 - 28% - The time it took to write this...

I'm at work and barely using it. I showed one co-worker the internet for about a minute. Showed her the teeter game. I've also had my apps killed with the advanced task killer

WTF?
 
Hey guys, head on over to the htc sprint hero forum, you'll find a buttload of info on this issue. you need to find out if your phone is sleeping. mine wasnt sleeping at first and my battery was dead by noon. now i can go a day and a half before its dead. btw, do yourself a favor and get rid of the task killer. it was keeping my phone "awake" and killing my battery.
 
head on over to sthe sprint htc hero forum and you'll find out why. the eris is the same phone as the hero.
 
My battery life has been pretty decent so far.

First, make sure GPS is off unless absolutely necessary (Google Maps). This will kill the battery.

Next, make sure there isn't a data-intensive widget in-use. Also, Gmail accesses in real-time, so maybe there is a way to cut the syncs down to 15 or 30 min.

For battery info, dial (*#*#4636#*#*) and press Call. This will bring up a sort of field test mode. Select Battery Information. This will tell you a lot about your battery.

I'm posting this same thing in a few of your threads...head to the sprint htc forum and you'll get alot of your questions answered. the hero and the eris are the same phone.
 
Task killer was causing my battery to drain faster. didable the native sms and download hancent. there is a bug that keeps the phone awake in the factory sms. task killer seems to cause this on a few phones i have seen.
 
It seems to me that more Eris owners are happier with their phones than the Motorola Owners.

I am a Eris owner after trying both phones and instantly knew the Motorola Droid, even with it cool now Google NAV, was not going to make me happy. Rather, it probably would have really frustrated me with it's choppiness and flimsy design.

So far I've had absolutely no issues with Eris. Everything works well, and compared to my G1, it is a completely different experience with Android and for the better. I compare it to an iPhone experience and functionality except with more options. I mean I wouldn't mind an iPhone of course but whether Android or Apple, they each have their limitations.

What do the other Eris and Moto Droid owners think?

Yeah...I have now done the same thing. I hate to say it, but the "few" problems Droid Eris has may just cause me to go back to a BlackBerry...though I love the OS. I can't live with a phone whose battery won't even last one day of gentle use...has a demonic spirit that mysteriously redials numbers occasionally...and forces me to use a magnifying glass to read my email. The latter will likely be fixed someday, but until then...??

You can't. This is an Android problem and the internet is filled with complaints about it. It works in "Android Email" but NOT in "Gmail". The problem is with Google and Android.
