i let mine run down and change the battery demanding settings and my phone last all day with HEAVY use.

I disabled popup notifications in handcent today, and from that point on the battery has drained muuuuuch slower. Phone off charger today at 10am, listened to Shoutcast using DroidLive for half hour, it is now 8:15pm and I'm at 41%. Sent a bunch of texts, checked email, two 1-5 minute phone calls. So, I'm at over ten hours now with 40% battery left.

im a settings guy, the first thing i do is check the settings of a device. i changed ALOT!
so this article may help you: Toggle Settings optimizes Android battery/features | Google Android Blog

had mine on since 5:30am its now 10pm and i cant even kill it to let it power cycle!
luckily this should be the last time i have to do this.
right now i have wifi, BT, pandora, youtube, the music player and im playing baseball and its still going!
been like this the last hour!
wow, im complaining the battery wont die...well, the issue is im sleepy :)

As long as I can use my phone all day I'm happy to have to charge it every night.

Yesterday took off charger at 8am
Minimal usage (1 call, a few v-mails, texts, email) until 6pm battery at 71%
Heavy app use from 6-7pm battery at 62%
This morning at 8am I was at 8% (I didn't charge overnight).

I'd prefer it was stronger but I can live with this.

I honestly don't have an Eris, but I know that on many other phones I've had there have been issues. Several times I've had to completely drain a phone in order for the charge to be displayed correctly. Almost like the phone doesn't know where the bottom of the tank is until it actually "hits" it. Have all you guys tried draining it all the way before charging?

i am officially done my training :)
i drained it twice.

I hope this helps some of you out. To save my battery life I turned off "Background Data" in the Data Synchronization menu in Settings. I also don't have Bluetooth or W-Fi on. I am using the factory Message App, set my Screen light time to 30 seconds, and only login to Facebook when needed. This has taken my phone battery charge up to a little over a day.

FWIW, I got this phone on a Friday, and the next day I had to fully charge. But that's because this was a new phone and I was doing everything under the sun to see how it worked: always checking my location, logged into Facebook, checking my email, sending texts, talking on the phone, seeing how videos looked on YouTube, playing with Pandora-you get the idea. We're all pretty much new users with the Eris, and we're all trying to figure out how it works, so with that said, the battery is going to drain because we're always playing with it!

I'm at work over nine hours a day with a computer and a phone, so I should be using those to surf the web or talk to people..no personal calls of course :)

Sorry for being so long. I hope this helps some of you. Now on to figure out why the GPS location has me blocks away from where I'm really standing...

Hey everyone, I was having the same problems that basically you were all talking about with the battery and I did some of the things that you all mentioned such as I stopped widgets from running unless I really wanted them. And for the ones that I really want to run I have them update every 30 min or 1 hour or 2 hours. If you need it updated faster you can always just refresh like as in the weather bug app under menu. I stopped all of the GPS, BT and WIFI, turned the phone to sleep mode in 1 minute and that helped alot. Also as a tip as soon as your done with a phone call or function hit the hangup button again and the phone goes directly to sleep several 1-2 minute waitings to go to sleep can add up and drain the battery! I also got rid of the app killer and that seemed to really expand the life of the battery...I also changed the modifications under data sync and then to the feature where it can only locate you via the network, NOT by GPS...the map feature gets you pretty damn close to where your at and if need be you can always just put the gps on for a hot one to get an exact location or directions then turn it off. that really helped the battery life. it seems the games kills the battery faster than the web browsing, I dont know if thats just me but thats what it seems and I stopped playing the games for the most part and that helped also. Overall after I screwed around fixing all of that, was on the internet for about 15 minutes, connected to wifi to make sure that worked then turned it off, turned the gps on to check that and turned it off, turned on BT (made call) then turned off and 3 text, read and send about 5 emails (mostly three sentence replys) 2 phone calls at a total of about 5-6 min each my battery is at 88% and its now 4pm and I started all of this at about 130pm straight from the charger. before it seemed like my phone would be at about 60%. Im gonna reply back in a few days to let you all know if that really did help me and if its still working!

Another observation on my battery is that it is charging a lot faster after a week. But a strange note is that once it gets around 84-88% it will jump to a 100% (Full) really fast (within a few minutes). For instance, I checked it about 15 or less minutes ago it was at 84% then now it is at 100%.

Funny you mention that because this morning I noticed that my phone drained from 100% to about 84% in a little more than an hr. It's like the charge from 80-100 is almost irrelevant, imo.

I just was over at android central and someone over there is saying the standard 1500 battery from the Imagio works and fits perfectly with the Eris. That would add alittle more power for us users. He also said that he is going to try the Seidio 1750 battery which claims to be the same size and report back his findings.

Maybe this could be the way to go if they dont release something soon. Is it safe to use another phones battery?

So what's the point of having a device where you have to turn every feature in order to get it to last for any reasonable period of time. I'm assuming most people actually purchased the device to use some of those features...

1st real day with the Eris and I drained the battery last night charged it over night and I took it off the charger at 7:00 am. I have been playing with it for over an hour now and I am about 80% battery.

I have wifi, bluetooth, and GPS off. I also am using the default SMS.

Ok...my wife's Eris has been getting gradually longer battery life day by day w the same use. The last few days or so, she's been letting it die and then puts it on the charger.

First few days: only getting about 10 to 12 hrs w 5 to 10 calls, some texting and quite a bit of surfing the web.
Next few days: same usage and up to about 15 to 18 hrs.
Now: (yesterday to this morning) took off the charger yesterday at 6 am and as of this morning, was @ 15% at 7 am. Same usage, more or less. It's now 8 am and she just text me that Eris is at 12% and she's thrilled!! 26 hrs and still going!
I'm really starting to like how her battery is building strength.
Just to clarify, wifi/off, gps/off but all else normal. Go Eris!:D

I've noticed the exact same behaviour from my Eris' battery.
...and it's definitely a good thing! :)

Hey, Nefarious...she just text me that she's been texting and surfing quite a bit @ work this morning and still @ 9%!! Going on 29 hours now. Awesome! If this keeps up, I might get the Eris instead of waiting on the "Passion" and paying a grip for it vs Eris $99. Ok...might be getting a bit hasty now! :D

That's excellent! I actually got 48 hours between charges at the start of the week, with light to moderate use in those two days. I talked about it in one of the battery threads somewhere here on the forum, heh! So I know it can be done. I know I can easily get a day out of the phone even with HEAVY use now, and that's all that REALLY matters to me -- so I am a very very happy customer! I've had the phone for over a week now and I can still say I absolutely LOVE it!!!

Best of luck...

Just got my Eris yesterday, so maybe the battery isn't conditioned, but I'm only getting about 4 hours between charges. I've dumped the standard SMS client and now using handcent (and have rebooted), turned off GPS, wifi, bluetooth, uninstalled Advanced Task Killer, set email to retrieve only manually. Now my awake time is at 98% (versus 45-50% before I did all these things). Very frustrated. I turned off notifications in the stock SMS app, but didn't see a way to uninstall it. Is there anything else I'm missing on this?

sounds ok to me. i made a post in this section about battery optimization, check that out and see if it helps.

I am on day 3 of the current charge on my Driod Eris. I find that if I turn off "mobile network" when I am not using the internet features, and turn it on on-demand when I need to browse the web or check email, battery life is quite decent. It's Wed at 3pm now and I still have one bar left. I am pretty sure it'll go through the end of the day without a problem.

I took it off charger on Monday morning at 9am. I turned off "Mobile Network" when I am at work and not using the phone. I turned it back on after lunch and used the browser/map/email a bit, then I turned it off again. By the time I get home I still have more than 50% left. (I did turn off my phone that night).

Day 2, on Tue, pretty much the same thing, battery bar is still green when I get home that night. Thinking that it should be close to being empty, I didn't turn off the phone at night. I want to completely drain the phone for the initial few charges.

On Wed, much to my surprise, the phone still have green bars left. now at 3pm, it's one yellow bar. Even with no bars left and the phone gave me a warning that I need to charge it, I still got a few hours out of it on Sunday night (in voice only mode).

So if you want to extend and save battery, turn off mobile network (3G) when you are not using the phone. You can easily turn it back on when you want to use the phone to get the latest weather/email, etc...

On the Droid Eris, press and hold the power button, a pop up menu will show up, the last option will allow you to turn on/off the 3G network. Voice connection is always on and doesn't seem to drain that much battery. 3G, wi-fi, and gps all drains battery much faster than just phone mode.

My previous LG phone lasts about a week between charges. I wonder how long the droid eris will last on 'airplane' mode (hehe).

What programs are out there that can tell me battery drain usage per application/component? I see people posting some screenshots but I don't know what program is being used. Thanks.

I want to get one of these phones but with all the battery problems that i have been reading on all the of the different web sites i'm starting to get hemi-droids.

I dont think there are battery problems, once you quit playing with it every second, and you get the settings set right. mine does fine all day no problem. i mess with mine fore 2 hours in the evening to get the battery down low before i put it on the charger.start at 5:30am till 9:00pm
