Just wanted to check if anyone is using their Evo to tether to PC using a USB cable and not the Hotspot feature?....What speeds are you guys getting? This is mine.

Are you covered by 4G or paying for hotspot?

Or is this through PDAnet/Easy tether?

Nope i dont have the hotspot feature and im not using pdanet or tether.im using the feature that came with android 2.1(original Os that came with sprint.).i dont have 4G in my area either.

yea i didnt know about that too...just found that out....i did it here:(right on the bottom)

Well technically, USB Tethering did not come with Android 2.1. It's HTC's add on. Whenever you plug in your Evo to a computer, you'll have the option of selecting Internet Sharing on the Evo popup. It's free and has nothing to do with the premium Hotspot feature.

ok thanks....i never knew that option was there till now lol

Wait, but USB tethering works for you? Did you do the OTA update that was released on 6/4? The Internet Sharing option is completely greyed out for me.

This is pretty weird...I still can't do it. The Internet Sharing option turns white when I connect my EVO by USB, but when I try to check it, it says "cannot connect" and leads me to a Error Code 67 - data call failure; user name or password incorrect.

I'm assuming you're not rooted either, right?

I got the data call failure too. In the meantime I'm using EasyTether.

Your phone could be The One.

We must ...dissect it. I'll post this in the Error 67 thread and hopefully we can figure this out.

im pretty familiar with blackberry's but really new to android devices ......what do you mean by the 'one'?lol

Oh, was just joking around. Matrix reference. I'm hoping there's something special on your phone which will allow non-rooted phones to use native tethering.

I can use the tethering to connect a computer to a wifi router but can't get it to connect to the mobile network, get error code 67. kkwus, are sure you're transferring data over 3g? Wifi is completely turned off.

yes i think its 3G cos WIFI is never on for me.....

i saw that option to share with pc, but i cant get mine to work, wonder if its cuz i have wifi on instead of 3g?

Well you can share your wifi...basically turning your EVO into a Wireless-USB network adapter. But yeah, that's the only tethering that works for me.
