Yet another Evo vs iPhone review

How that is at all acceptable is beyond ridiculous. Remember that HTC has done this before with the HTC Tilt.

Are u going to get rid of the phone over it?? Or have you? I actually still have my tilt right here next to me. LOL.

Why must u insist on making people see what is bothering u. It only shows on the phone when youre doing something really fast or perhaps playing certain games. Maybe he doesnt see it because he does neither. If he doesnt see it let him be happy with his phone as opposed to doing everything can to show him the error of his ways. Ignorance is bliss.......

I have rooted my evo and Fresh ROM installed and still get lag. Fresh is a lot speedier than stock. Those who are running Sprint's stock rom with no lag are just kidding themselves.

No lag for me, I'd say it tracks my finger as good as my iPod Touch. I'm not sure if the Touch works the same as an iPhone, but I'm sure it does.

I haven't not "not seen" an app I've been looking for on Android, except as many have said, not as many games.

As far as no app worth having isn't on the iPhone...Google Voice?

Sorry but there is only lag in tracking if you intend to use the phone faster than you can actually process information and actually visualize. Anyone notice how unrealistically fast one has to scroll through screens to even demonstrate this? When you use it for everyday normal functions as a normal person would and as it's designed to be used there is no problem with lag. IMO it's tighter and not as overly touchy as I have I found the iphone to be.

Most want a phone to make calls, text and have a reliable network before anything else. I know I want to be able to take advantage of 4G technology now or in the very near future and want plans that are arguably the best and priced the best. No app or app store, tracking ability, or camera, etc, is ever going to be better than the network, that supports it, allows it to be. All of these things revolve around data which is not a problem for EVO users but are and will be for some others.

I'm in the processing of trying to figure out how to cancel everything. Its quite a hassle.

Why do I insist on informing people about this problem or why its bothering me? Because crap like this happens....

HTCClassAction.org - Because HTC dropped the ball, and it's about time they pick it up!

And guess what? HTC did nothing. Don't be surprised if the same thing happens to the EVO. If you are fine with it, then fine, keep the EVO.

Have a video anywhere that supports this claim? I have the Touch and EVO next to each other right now and the EVO lags behind. This is a 2G Touch mind you. When the iPhone 4 is out, what is the iPhone gonna do to the Evo then?

Here is a demonstration of the finger moving slowly. Sorry for reposting it, but people seem to fail to accept video proof.

Furthermore, if my test can't be taken as irrefutable proof, how about a test by Android Central?

The touch input lag is not just there when you're running a ton of programs. It's there no matter WHAT you do or how many applications you have open.

One video does not mean everyones phone is like that. You fail to accept that! Remember when everyone that had a toyota would have there brakes fail? Remember how that really only affected less then a % but it was made into a big deal because the very few it did affect were blow hards?

Just because you have a video of it does not mean everyone's phones are the exact same.

How does toyota support your point? It turned out that a lot of people had the brake problem. But i'm not gonna get into that because this is a phone forum.

I don't have just "A" video, there are several. The lag isn't some kind of myth.

This isn't like the light leakage problem that is caused from a manufacturing defect. EVERY PHONE has this input lag.

Hang on a second, I never said it didn't lag, all I suggested is that although it may be lagging a bit it doesn't affect it's real world functionality. It's like having a car that does 0-60 in 5 sec vs a car that does it in 5.5. Not a big deal especially considering how most actually use the phone just like how most actually drive which is only the speed limit. I never noticed the lag or to what degree until this thread even now it does what my fingures ask it to do so I don't see how this is a big deal considering all of things on the plus sides with this phone.

It's a bit more significant than just 'a bit', and it does in fact affect its real world functionality. It's virtually possible to play table tennis on the Evo accurately, as you can tell from the video. Any other game or application that requires rapid finger movement across the screen is affected by this.

Just like the reviewer said in the Androidcentral video, it's a little sluggish but no issues in real world use. I understand how playing a game can be different but also understand there are a few better, faster response devices but there are also slower ones too. This is not a deal breaker by any means.

Ok i get what everyone is saying. My point is this: if you are buying a phone to play games then this is not the phone for you. I will not sit here and say the touch lag doesn't exist. It just doesn't track the finger spot on like it would on other phones. But I use my phone for calls, texts, emails, occasionally a few pictures or video, and most of the apps I download are work related or things such as Flixster or USA Today. I use nothing that the milliseconds of lag would affect. If I want to play games I use my PS3 or Xbox360. Yes I know... You want portability, then I return to my original statement which is get a phone that does what you want. Me... I am great with what I have and look forward to 2.2 on it in the next 6 months.

I have been using my phone now for a week without issue, can't put it down. Best phone out PERIOD. Thanks for letting me know that my phone lags because until you mentioned it, I hadn't noticed. I hsve played 3D games, read books, you name it. Kind out remind me of a mini Ipad but that dont have a webcam, 8meg shooter, usb port, portability, phone, 4G, and most importantly, a kickstand (throw that in fo rgood measure...lol..) I am just curious why people continue to compare the Iphone to phones/devices that are overall far superior pointing out one area which can be quite insignificant to many, while ignoring a host of more important features where the opposition clearly holds a sizeable advantage. I do not want a 3.5 inch Iphone (looks dwarfed now) that can't do half of the things that my Sprint Diamond much less my TP2 can do. I would not even mention the current Iphone and the EVO in the same sentnece because that would be a travesty. The new Iphone is another story but I seriously doubt that can hold a candle next to the EVO as well. Good luck paying twice as much for half.

There is no reason this phone shouldn't do what everyone wants - from business users to gamers. It's not like this is a known flaw with all HTC/Android phones. If there's one phone that shouldn't be limited to 30FPS or have input lag it is the Evo! We all want our smart phones to be the best that they can be.

I'm not comparing it to the iPhone. In fact, you could compare the Evo to any other Android phone on the market for the issues we are discussing. Evo is the only one with these problems. If you don't see that as an issue then I don't know what to tell you.

It sounds like a lot of people are contacting HTC but I bet it's still a relatively small percentage of HTC owners. With it directly competing with the iPhone 4 you would think they'll push out some patches ASAP.

Well, all these picky points are valid if you accept the premise that the IPhone is the perfect standard and any variation is wrong. Notice how the video review does not mention one shortcoming of the IPhone. (Dropped calls anyone, how can Apple put out a phone that can't do that particular function. See how fun this is?)

Some fanboyism? His only valid points are the camera sticking out too far and the inability to easily close an app without running ATK.

He's obviously not a techie and doesn't understand the open source model. This was just an ignorant rant.

I completely agree,...just an apple fanboy. But I will say that our Marketplace is a bit on the barren side but it's only going to get better. The EVO's screen tracks incredibly!!

Does it really take a techie to notice lag? :p

It's not just 'other phones'. It is literally almost every other smartphone out there to date, and perhaps EVERY Android phone with the exception of the Evo. It doesn't lag behind by milliseconds; it's more like a full second. That's an eternity when you're trying to play a game on the device.

Now y'all are just arguing for the sake of arguing. You just made my points for me. Go get one of the every other smart phones or Android phones and play games on them. Have fun. I don't and never will play games on my phone as I have already stated. I am happy with my Evo as a business and personal phone. Go buy a gaming device and complain about it in that device's forum as I am sure you will. You know what really bugs me about all the complaining and bitching..... It does nothing. Not in here. Maybe somewhere that HTC will feel the effect of it but not here. You have every right to complain but when I buy something that doesn't perform the way I expect it to I have two choices: return it and look for something else or live with it. If I choose to live with it but sit around complaining about it well then that just shows the type of person I would be doesn't it? If I return it why the hell would I sit around in the forum for product I don't own anymore and bitch about it?

I do understand his complaint about the camera sticking out, but until I get my case I've been leaving it on the kickstand. Haven't had a problem at all. Also I let a few of my friends who love IPhone and told me not to get the Evo to try it out. All of them were obsessed with it and said they couldn't look at their IPhone the same after that. Given they have the 3GS, but still the near 1 inch difference in screen is so noticeable that it is hard to go back to anything else. I am coming from a Blackberry and have to say that I love the app store for Android. It has everything I need, the apps that cost money are very reasonable, and it has a good description/rating system. Multitasking isn't a problem for me at all and I love how he conveniently left out any of the flaws of the IPhone. The notification system on the Evo is great, one of the things that made me worried when coming from Blackberry since Blackberry has a very smooth multitasking system. On top of that the plans are $30-$50 over Sprint's, maybe even more than that. Is the difference between an Evo and IPhone $50 a month? Not even close. I'm very happy I switched from ATT to Sprint.

No tech out there will be perfect, everything has some kind of flaw. Some can be fixed and some cant. All this tech is still man made so it will never be perfect, that includes the iphone. I left att and my iphone 3gs because of really bad service and when my phone messed up cause itunes didn't want to play nice with windows 7, all i got from att and apple was oh well. I came to sprint for the better service and plans, the phone is a bonus. It doesn't matter what cell phone or cell company it is every new phone will always be compared to the iphone, and this game is old and played out. My iphone blah blah blah blah, thats why there is free will different people like different things.

I don't understand. Over and over .. the same crap. WHO CARES about the iPhone vs the EVO ??? I certainly don't. I chose what I wanted because I liked it. What is or is not better makes no difference. All these reviews are like someone insulted your mommies and you want to beat them up.

It is just so absurd. Maybe that's because I am an adult and really don't care if your better looking than me. I think every iPhone vs EVO review should be deleted. It just doesn't matter. Be concerned over important things.

It seems everyone who posts these articles is just trying to convince themselves they did the right thing. If you need to be convinced you still have over 2 weeks to get a full refund.
