Any idea how the case manufacturers are gonna handle the "hump back" I can't stand NOT to have a case on my phone. I have never bought a phone so new the accesories weren't out yet. Thoughts? Do you think verizon might have a cheapy case that will work until Siedo and Otterbox get in gear?
For sure. They make enough money on accessories that they usually come out with the phone. Besides, there was an internal systems screen shot posted earlier showing accessories for this, including at a minimum a body glove case and I think one other one. If not, ebay or Amazon will have them by the truckload.

Is it true that the screen will have gorilla glass?

Verizon had a couple of cases for the Incredible when it launched, they will be okay, a little expensive but not too bad, then not long into the future they will be cases every where.

Engadget is having their weekly podcast now(live) and they're talking to the person who previewed the phone she's saying it's really fast and smooth and all the ninjablur stuff isn't intrusive at all and can be turned off(by turn off I mean there widgets).

She reconfirmed it's running 2.1 but of course the phone she saw was a prototype and she said the phone is slightly bigger than the evo she said it's too big for her as a girl :p but the guy who's phone it was said it wasn't too big and it can fit into skinny jeans. She really liked the phone even tho it didn't have a front facing camera but she believes it doesn't need one on a 3G network.

I would hope you could remove widgets, that wouldn't seem like android if you couldn't. I still wish you could disable it if you ever wanted to, like you can with sense in most phones. Yeah I am still hoping it will have 2.2 when it comes out, could be wishful thinking but you never know with the announcement coming next week.

Front facing cameras and video chat are only going to work if BOTH parties have them and BOTH parties are in 4g coverage areas. So until BOTH of those conditions are standard I honestly don't see the big deal with the front camera.

I did a Skype video call from my Droid's camera using Fring to Skype on a desktop PC. It works but very unstable.

Yeah I just wanted to make that clearer, didn't want anyone to think I meant being able to get rid of motoblur completely since we aren't 100% if that's possible yet.

Hi all,

Long time lurker, first time poster. I found this thread which had a poster who claimed to be a verizon beta tester:

Droid X: The next Moto Droid phone for Verizon - Page 4 - AnandTech Forums

Cliff Notes:
-Elements of moto blur can be disabled (essentially all the widgets except for the "themes")
-Great Battery life - claiming he was only at 50% after 7 hours of moderate use
-Auto focus info from engadget somewhat bogus - you can just press the camera button halfway and it will focus itself.
-Has a notification LED
- The screen is IPS based on his subjective testing (wide viewing angles side-to-side, top-to-bottom, incredibly bright and detailed) but it has lower DPI than iPhone 4 obviously.
- The CPU is single-core ARM v7 rev 2 (v71) architecture (probably TI OMAP 3640) clocked at 1GHz according to Device Info app from Android Market. BogoMIPS score is 299.95. Supports neon and vfpv3 for what its worth.
- The GPU is a PowerVR SGX 530 with support for OpenGL ES-CM 1.1 at a minimum according to glInfo from Android Market (the glInfo tool may not be able to read OpenGL ES 2.x support yet, but the hardware should support it!) *note* the PowerVR GPU is roughly equivalent to iPhone 3GS, and its faster than the integrated ATI core in current-gen Snapdragon.

That's all for now

Great info. Anyone see the recent droid 2 leaked info? Apparently they had it at some tech show at a nasa thing and it was running the same 2.1 with blur on top. But the woman at the booth said it would launch with FroYo. Assuming she knew what she was talking about since she did have a droid 2, does this make anyone else wonder the possibility of the blur skin as temporary on the X also and it will launch with 2.2?

Do you have a link for this?

I would assume that Motorola will keep up with the last droid and release it stock, seeing as they did not upgrade the camera either, i also assume that motorola will like to put thier skin on one of their high end phones, if only to see how it fares with the HTC incredible...so i will say that the droid x will come with blur, which i dont mind...i am a social network user and i might enjoy blur..

And yeah. I thought that they might do that also. But it still seems like a promising idea. I've just read so much bad about blur that it has me worried. I doubt it could be that bad. I know I prefer sense on my incredible over vanilla android that I had on my droid.

What bad things have you heard about blur?

Well honestly when I try to think of it, nothing specific. Just never good comments. But I know enough to make my own opinions about electronics. Because I didn't read much good about sense either and I love it. Couldn't even bring myself to switch to a launcher from the market. Maybe people just dislike skins because of the delay it puts in software updates.

Even if the Droid X wasn't coming out, am I the only one not excited about Droid 2 at all? I guess it is for people that really want physical keyboards, but I would go with the Incredible over it myself. Good thing the Droid X is coming out, yay!!!

+1
I couldn't care less about a physical keyboard so that's just added bulk and a plethora of things to go bad/break.

I love my physical keyboard on my Devour. The landscape on-screen keyboard is awful. It's slow and lags and the lack of multi-touch makes typing on it difficult.

I'm with you, i have never liked the droid, now the droid 2 is just bleh....

Was the Droid so popular because of its keyboard or just because it was such a great device stability and spec-wise. After all, it does account for one-third of all android devices.

the droid was so popular because it was basically a devs dream! It came stock android, and for the most part moto, verizon, and google left the phone pretty open and able to do all the things it was intended to do. That and the fact that at the time, the screen on the droid was huge compared to everything else, but the HD2.

I'm liking the pics of the Droid 2 more than the Droid X. For one, the TI-85 errr Droid X is way too freaking big. I'm also not a fan of physical buttons on the front. I think this will be like the Storm where the second iteration is all touch.

Either way, I'm not jumping on Android until Google can reign in these manufacturers and stop them from messing with the embedded UI. Sense, Blur, and Touchwiz on Android need to die!

I don't want to hack the crap out of my phone to get it to be how it should be right out of the box - plain vanilla Android and current with Google's updates.

Isn't that the point of Android though, to be able to do whatever they want with it since it is open sourced? I agree that it sucks waiting on updates, but a lot of people prefer sense over stock. I like the fact that google has let the manufacturers decide what they put on it.

Don't get me wrong I would still rather have stock, but everyone has a different opinion and that is what makes Android great.
