Report your 2.1 OTA error /bugs/complaints here.

It's hardware related because some phones will always get the bug no matter what they do with their software, and some phones never get the bug no matter what. And it's happened on phones with no third party apps, and on phones without sense, and before and after factory resets, and rooted and non-rooted.

As I posted before, it Verizon confirmed it to me that the silent bug IS a software issue and HTC IS working on it.

Sorfware issues can be quite ellusive and somtes hard to reproduce. This about the Vista update how buggy it was. Some people had terrible problems (blue screen, etc) some others were happy.

Also we do not have any statisics if people with replacement had this issue as well.

Nevertheless, even though they say it is a SW issue, it might be just a strategy, a lie, to avoid phone replacement. (at least at my vzw store...)

My Eris only problem since the update is that it will not work as a phone. I have to reboot to get it to work as a phone, I cant answer incoming calls or make outgoing calls. This starts to happen after the phone has been on more than an hour. It also turns on every app on the phone I would remove them, but I CANT. Other than that is great. LOL

After reading more I would guess that I am suffering the SILENT BUG. I was so hoping HTC would be a better phone manufacturer, guess i was WRONG!!

I've got 4 Eris users in the house, all got the OTA from verizon at different times and did the upgrade.
Everybody is complaining how slow it is compared to 1.5.
Mine has some very annoying problems since the upgrade:
-Can't always call from contact list
-Phone rings once and goes to voice mail every time, I've missed just about every call that comes in when the screen is locked.
-Unlocking the screen is 50/50 sometimes it just doesn't take the swipe, also the same with turning off the alarm
-SMS sometimes goes missing. I'll be typing a msg and then it goes to the menu screen, then when I go back to the msg, it's gone and I have to start over.
-Very slow opening my exchange email, also wishing that when I'm finished reading the current email, it will automatically mark it as read. Instead, I have to go to the list, open it again and then it gets marked as read.
-Camera takes forever to start before I can take a pic, also very slow to send the pic out on email or SMS
-I've lost my clock, just gone and now I have an alternate, but I'm missing the old one.
-Can't understand why the calendar gets opened, I rarely use it and it's not on a screen at all
-Never get a full bars signal strength, but do get 3G
-Browser is slow, even with WIFI on

Any ideas? Am I missing something fundamental?

I pretty much have all these problems also.
I'm heading to the verizon store to see what
they are going to do about this.
This thing has turned into a laggy piece of crap!!!
I'm going to push for a newer model phone that has better hardware to handle this OS or put me back to 1.5 on the Eris.
I don't want to or even have the time to screw around with this to TRY to make it work the way it did before the forced upgrade to 2.1.

Whens the iphone coming to Verizon???

I haven't seen any of it. I'm certain that most have not, as well.

We see posts about many issues in here. I am still convinced that the Eris is a very well designed device that is suffering from poor quality control measures at the manufacturing and assembly plants; they are boxing defective phones and shipping them to customers and stores as if they were all the same high quality as the perfect ones such as mine and those of people I know.

I have no numbers or data to prove this, but it seems apparent going by "silent bug" reports as well as other oft repeated issues in here compared to my own experience and my friends and co-workers with the same device never having a problem of any kind that could not be ironed out by clearing caches, old texts and emails, etc.

Not necessarily. For instanmce a hard drive can have bad sectors. That is a hardware issue. The software handles it so you don't even notice it.

PS.: BTW, in the verizon store a tech lady confirment that HTC knows about the silent issue and it is a software bug and they are working on it.

This is not a bug, but I just noticed this morning that after the update and a factory reset that the brightness setting was set to full on rather than what I usually use - automatic brightness. I'll have to see if I notice any better battery life; so far, it's been on par with what I had before with 1.5.

is it better to have it set to Auto or set at like 1/4 for battery life?

Well I don't think my phone is defective, because it work great before the upgrade, BUT I must say know that I did the hard reset its back to 90+% of what it was on 1.5.
I think Verizon should have made everyone do a hard reset and I think it would have caused less problems.

I'm back to being pretty happy with my Eris thanks to the boards...:)

My thought is that, for battery life, it's better to have it set manually to as dim as you can stand to have it. That said, for me, I want to be able to see who is calling when I am outside on a bright day without fiddling, etc.

It's very probable that it is a hardware defect that can be fixed with a software patch. In other words, it could be that the software currently used is pushing the hardware too hard, and a software patch could do something to alter timing, jump around bad driver implementation, etc.

Interesting you said that, because I've been having the opposite problem: I was setting my notifications sounds to be on, as well as vibration and the notif. bar. But I wasn't getting sounds or vibrations.

Playing around with it (before throwing it out the window), I discovered that, if g-mail is your primary mail server, and if you use the Android "mail" widget rather than the G-mail widget, you still need to open the G-mail widget and configure your settings there as well.

So the notification settings in Sounds don't seem to default to my g-mail. What they do apply to is beyond me. And using the "Mail" widget to access my g-mail, and applying those settings, didn't give me back my notifications. Today, when I went into the G-mail widget, I fixed the settings and now everything works. Until I reboot.

Anyway, point of the story is that you might want to check all the various setting options for e-mail, as the notification setting in Sounds, by itself, may not be doing the job.

Nothing like a little redundancy, eh?

BTW - the reason I use the Mail widget rather than G-Mail, is that l can do a batch delete on Mail, but can't figure out how to do it in the direct G-mail app.

By the time I get this phone figured out, it'll be time for my "new after 2".

I assumed you don't use the gmail app because it's an incomprehensible mess. Perfect example of what happens when you try to fix something that isn't broken. Since the beginning of time, email inboxes have been sorted by time of reception. Why Google thought they knew better than everybody else in every universe is even crazier (that isn't in the T9 dictionary??) than me thinking I have any business criticizing them.

I have gmail notifications turned off, and mail (the app called ''mail'', which is a hundred trillion trillion times better than the gmail app) notifications turned on. I get notifications for seven or eight out of ten mails.

I am, in direct opposition to all that is right and good, always annoyed when I refresh my inbox and discover unread mails.

Also, my cursor is not behaving right. It frequently disappears and doesn't jump to where my thumb touches the screen like it did with 1.5 and v1. This is a like new with the ota.

The HTC power widget has a three step brightness control - the only home screen brightness adjustment I know of. Works pretty well.

There is also the stock Android Power Control widget, which also has three steps. Another option is the MySettings app, which has a lot of settings options, though, of course, not a direct click on the display.

I really believe that its the hardware (500mhz) having a hard time keeping up with the 2.1, doesn't the Droid and the new "htc incredible" have twice the the speed processor and double the memory of the Eris??

Just my 2 cents, another 10-12 months and we will all be looking at upgrading to the next Droid phone...:):)

My problem has been my facebook sync. Since the OTA, I havent been able to get facebook to sync with my contact list. I have done a factory reset, I have tried linking, clearing cache, restarting the app, and nothing seems to work. Any tips or intel?

Thanks

My husband called Verizon about my Eris. He is a software engineer and an Android Developer (just a bit of background info). He did some software tests to see why my Eris has been doing crazy things, and he found lots of errors in their programming code. When he talked to Verizon on the phone, they said a lot of people that downloaded 2.1 OTA got a corrupted file--somehow it didn't download correctly from their server--and this is their reason for some of the bugs (so they say).

The Verizon rep said that there would be a software update sometime, but nobody was sure when it would be or what it would include. She also said that many people are complaining about call lag.

They sent me a new Eris, because they said there is no way to redownload the 2.1 file (without breaking your warranty). The new Eris came yesterday. It seems to be quicker and less laggy, but I am skeptical right now :).

Is this the Silent Bug??? Or what is this???

1) This past week. I have tried making calls from my stored contacts, and I won't ever go to ringing.. I works if i just enter the phone number though. It also goes back to working if I reboot the phone.

2) I have also had where the phone will vibrate but not ring (not set to vibrate only) and when I answer I can't hear anything and they can't hear me.

I am assuming the second option is the silent bug.. But what is the first?

Aside from the 50% bug, I have nothing else wrong with the phone..

I really didn't want to get a replacement...

A side question. Does rooting get rid of these bugs?

Let us know how the new Eris is working, They offered one to me but I don't think its a software thing I think the Eris doesn't have the right hardware to run 2.1.
If your works better then maybe I will go get another new one.

thanks

My 2.1 issues on 2.1v3 have been:

Sick lag only since the ota came out. About 3 days after my wife got 2.1 ota on her eris mine has been bogging horribly, usually requiring a battery pull every other day, if not every day.

Call lag is insane, have cleared all caches(call log, web cache, messages, emails etc) with no help. Even after a factory reset no change in speed.

The 50% signal bug i've given up on lol, it can tell me i have no signal but no problems making or recieving calls in that sense, it just lags so bad half the time i miss calls.

Past couple days ive been getting battery overheating messages via the HTC battery widget. Phone isnt getting any hotter than it has at other times according to the actual temp, usually around 34-37c.

Keyboard problems i havent had, swype rules :p.
Browser problems i cant say ive had, other than extreme lag, both in dolphin and the regular HTC browser.

No probs w/ weather widget or any of that.

As i mentioned, all of this started post OTA. I did not recieve the ota and cant explain the timing, maybe its just my luck. I was loving 2.1 till the ota came out lol. 2.1 v2 then v3 were great, few bugs with v2 but no major complaints w/ v3 till this lol.

Any suggestions? Ive got the same apps ive had running since i did v2 leak and haven't changed anything with those short of pull a few off to try to make some room.

Ive run sprite mechanics task killer, atk etc trying to see if that helped and didn't see much of a difference at all unfortunately.

Take it easy :)
