Cheap if it proves reliable, however I'm not talking about yours - I know nothing of it. I'm talking about balders'

think I am I going to take a chance on a cheap chinese card - I can always send it back or claim it was lost in post if it is Dodgy.

There are at least two sandisk factories in the east one in hong kong and one in shanghai

Sorry i am busting chops today

There probably are, but their quality control and chips used will be much higher than those sold by individual ebay sellers.

At the end of the day, it's up to you to do what's best for you and your wallet.

OK, dumb newbie-to-desire question... I got the phone with the 4gb card in... if I go and buy a bigger one, can I just copy the stuff from the 4gb to PC, then copy that straight to the newer card and it'll work ok? Or is there other stuff I have to do?

Yes, you can just copy from sd to hdd then back to sd, however, make sure you have windows set to display hidden & system files or you wont get everything.

While your in those settings, tell windows to also show file extensions for known file types. this is just a general security precaution. if you have a file that is named "songname.mp3.exe" then it's not really a music file, it's a virus or spyware.

Fake mem cards eventually fail.

They often report the correct capacity, but are well short and once they hit their capacity limit (depending on whatever crap chip they used) become unusable.

There's a new program on The BBC called fake britain which should open your eyes to these ebay specials....

I'm just running the H2testw on the 4gb card that came with the phone along with the 32 gb card from eBay.

I'll post the results when they are finished.

I am amazed a website hasn't sprung up yet which compares read/write speeds of SD cards. It really is trial and error, sometimes you get what you paid for if you go cheap, sometimes you get a bargain. Conversely sometimes you are ripped off/get what you paid for.

My current 16gb class 6 was cheap as chips and is way faster than my 4gb, class 6 sandisk.

can i ask where you got that 16gb class 6 from? please don't say ebay cause i simply can't trust ebay for flash cards!

i'm looking at 'proper' websites but can't find much apart from a class..10?! kingston on ebuyer.com

I got one off ebay for 12 quid,a32 gb one. Will report back when it arrives. What tests should I do with it?

so i left H2testw testing the 32gb card last night as it does take some time to run a complete test. Windows in its infinite window decided to install updates and reboot thus wiping the test results. So i'll be doing the test again today.

I've included a link to a page that has the free utility (Designed for Windows it can run under Linux if Wine is installed) to test your flash memory. It does require you to format the drive before a test.

Remember if you do deal with a seller of fake cards to report them to eBay AND paypal.

Most will refund when you tackle them to avoid you making a complaint and shutting their accts
