What's the correct procedure when upgrading from one release candidate to another without deleting data?

RESOLVED! I have cm7 on my phone, but beforehand i made two backups of the stock rom. I just thought i would test them to see if they worked, so i backed up my cm7 rom and restored both of the stock ones, to find that neither got past the "Mytouch 4g" screen. I can easily restore back in to...

I recently flashed cyanogenmod 7, so i lost all of the stock ringtones that come with the mt4g. If one of you could extract the "New day" ringtone and post it somewhere for download, I would be eternally grateful. I always liked that ringtone as an alarm in the morning.

Finally got the courage to flash cm7, and it's pretty cool. I made two backups of my old rom for good measure, so i figure if i run in to warranty issues i can revert to that or the stock mt4g files. but my question, what now? what should/could i do with the new rom?

So i did the procedure to turn s-off with visionary and it worked, i didnt actually root yet, but when i started up it sent me on a force close loop for launcher pro and basically all apps on my phone, not sd card. I got that fixed by booting in to safe mode, and uninstalled all of the apps...
