Sorry for the REALLY late reply. As for 2.2.2, I am not sure. I have 2.2.1. If I were you, I would double check through all 13 pages of the ROM sticky. You could always use this method THEN run Basix.

This will return you to the original firmware the phone came with before 2.2.2 was released.

I am still with metro, yes.
You can keep your plan, yes. Some stores may try to make you upgrade. Happened to me with oneInge store. Just get out of there and go elsewhere.
If you've got the cash to spare, that's the best phone to get. I've had no regrets so far.
This phone is leagues over the usual metroPCS devices.
And battery life is AMAZING.
