Accessories some questions about OTG

share the love peeps ;)
I have a question peeps, my phone has the option to "move (apps to USB storage".
If I get myself an otg cable and pen drive, will connecting/disconnecting the drive a LOT cause me any potential issues?
And will i have to partition the drive in any particular way.
Also is there anything else useful I can do with OTG? (I recently read that my phone doesn't support MHL HDMI which caused me to impulse order a cheap Android tv stick lol.
Cheers for any input guys :thumbsupdroid:

Also, I have an sd card reader and sd card. Would that do the job as good as anything or would a dedicated USB "pen" drive be faster/more reliable?

You have to exercise the same caution you do when plugging and unplugging to charge.

You can plug in to any USB storage resource formatted as FAT32 - perhaps even exFAT, depending on your device. NTFS (popular for Windows) isn't supported by default with Android.

As for speed and reliability of an sd card vs a USB stick or pen drive, that's all down to the brand, rating and individual units at hand. Per usual.

Not sure what else you can do besides storage with it myself - definitely nothing for the TV as you've found. Maybe game controllers or a keyboard??

There is a slick small SanDisk memory stick available with a USB plug on one end and a mini USB plug on the other. I always carry the 64GB unit with me. Great for transferring data from phone to phone or phone to PC.

(On the Droid Turbo)
On the phone ... what you should do to disconnect an OTG device is ...
Go to Settings | Storage
Scroll all the way to the bottom
Click on Unmount USB On-the-Go Storage
When dialog appears choose OK
The disconnect OTG drive.

This assures that no apps are in the process of accessing the drive when it is being disconnected.

Definitely keyboards and mice, the latter very useful if your touchscreen is damaged and won't respond to normal input. Any USB-attachable storage, subject to formatting, works; I regularly connect a portable card reader to offload from a camera CF card, and have had an external 1TB hdd recognised (but not mounted as it's formatted EXT4 for use with my PVR).

Nice one guys. Food for thought. Looks like I'm gonna be treating my phone tomorrow (after me nearly killing it Saturday morning she needs a wee treat ;)
