Speaking of the latter, I am always impressed at how well-done that story is. In my youth I was not a fan of biographies and I can only recall reading two: Jim Thorpe and Jackie Robinson. Sure, as with any film (other than a doc) there is some theatrical license taken, but the crap Mr. Robinson had to endure was both disgusting and shocking. And he certainly had the talent as well. Chadwick Boseman did an excellent job (as always, and talk about someone taken far, far too soon!) in his portrayal, delivering a layered, nuanced performance.

Anyway, enjoy. :)

I enjoy watching old movies from the 30s through the 50s. They reflect a far more innocent time and I enjoy the study of verbiage and morals of those eras. Many funny situations aren't even close to being a situation today. We have degressed in common sense and respect for ourselves and our fellow man through the years and the fact is reflected in film though not the subject.
They also show an embarrassing display of bigotry though it wasn't the intent of the films. We have grown and yet haven't.

I've been on an 'oldies' kick lately and fired up:
Casablanca
Roman Holiday
Indiscreet
Arsenic and Old Lace — truly a funny film

Need to hunt down a lot still but am itching to watch For Whom the Bell Tolls and On the Waterfront. They're probably streaming somewhere, I haven't looked yet.

I no longer have a DVD player but have a lot of movies. Le sigh.
