How to prevent phone from accidentally muting notifications?

For some reason my phone (moto g pure, Android 12) keeps accidentally muting the notification volume, so that if I am called it does not ring. I want it to ring when I am called.

To be crystal clear about which sound setting is changing, it's this one:

The setting circled in orange, which should be a bell icon as shown in the picture, keeps getting changed to a crossed-out bell. I don't want that to happen.

I don't know exactly how this keeps happening; maybe it's because of bouncing around in my shirt pocket.

I would like some way to make it more difficult for that setting to change accidentally, such as by disabling all the volume controls on the lock screen. Is there anything I can do?

do you have a case for it? some cases have a pretty stiff button rockers so that it is hard to hit them when in a pocket.

on my s25 ultra i can turn off the vol buttons to control media. you can try that as well.

i also found this:

Yes, I have a case. I'm not sure it's the buttons actually because just pressing up or down volume buttons doesn't seem to change the bell to the crossed-out bell, not even if I do both at once. Maybe it's the buttons in combination with my chest pressing the screen.

Volume Lock looks promising, although reviews mention extensive full-screen ads unless you get the premium version.

IT is called Mute.
You can turn it up by pressing the volume key.
