Smart Glasses....do you have one or want one????

Meta? Yeah, right... like I need Facebook to see everything I'm seeing, hear everything I'm hearing, and go everywhere I go. Major hard pass. I have Solos smartglasses (without the creepy camera stuff) and I rarely wear them.
well to each their own. i love my meta Raybans. they have come in so handy for my work. and i could careless about data collection. the fact that i can just ask my glasses without having to dig my phone out is very useful to me. and the camera is also very nice to have. i love the fact that i can ask meta what i am seeing or have it translate something that i am looking at is super cool. plus i love the look of both glasses.
so far the oakleys battery life seems to be as advertised. they have lasted all day without needing to charge it. so tomorrow, i have time to go to my optometrist to get my prescription lenses put in. it will take about 2 weeks though.....so i will continue using my Raybans until then.

i changed the title of this thread to be just smart glasses. after doing more research on smart glasses, i realize that there is more to it.
there are various types of smart glasses. xr glasses also called extended reality glasses encompasses virtual reality, VR headsets, and augmented reality or AR glasses. some xr glasses for example can go into 3D and even virtual reality while others cannot.
the Viture glasses are not quite AR depending on the models. the new Luma series will be coming out in a few weeks for the Viture Luma and the Viture Luma Pro. the Viture Luma Ultra and the Viture Luma Beast will be coming out in Sept. and October respectively.....only the Beast should be considered AR glasses as they will have head tracking needed to do both AR and VR content.
Google is coming out with their own XR glasses. the protype currently being promoted has a tiny led screen that displays stuff similar to most smart watches do now. so stuff like directions, text messages and emails can popup and be displayed while you are still able to see your surroundings. there are few that are out now that is similar to google's glasses. just google Even Realities G1 and Haliday AI glasses.....they are very similar to what Google has plans.....think Meta Raybans but with a tiny display. the Raybans and Oakleys that i have are more ai smart glasses. they do not do AR.
so the Viture Luma Pro is what i am considering purchasing. it is not AR because it does not augment anything to your current surroundings. it is mostly a giant screen that is projected through the glasses. sure it has a ton of features....but all in all that is what it is. it needs a power source and needs to be connected to another device like a pc, phone, or handheld gaming devices like my Steam Deck. it is very bright with a reported 1,000 nits, but it supposedly does not do well in bright sunlight mainly because the glasses are not headsets like most vr headsets are. they have shields around the lenses to block out light. the Viture glasses are just that glasses. so light can penetrate above, below and thru the sides of the glasses.
so why am i considering it, you might ask? i am about to get a sleave tattoo which takes many hours and multiple sessions to do. my dog tattoo took over 4 hours to do. i need something to keep my mind occupied while it is being done. my tattoo artist is not that chatty so having a long conversation is something both want. my quest 3 VR headset is just to big a clunky to bring. the Vitures would be perfect for this situation. this is my main reason. but i do plan to travel some next year and these glasses would be perfect to travel with. it is great for streaming and gaming. i do not really need productivity which is suppose to be not quite refined unless you get head tracking with the Luma Beast model.
anyways just thought i add in some info about them that i just learned. thoughts?

I'm at the opposite end: productivity would be the main thing I'd want them to have (though TBH a laptop with eyeball tracking which switched focus to the window I'm looking at would probably be all I'd need - provided it had a bash shell, since I can't do anything serious on an OS without one). AR I could have uses for, while gaming would be very low down my priorities.
I wasn't aware of Viture: they look more like something I could use than I expected, though I've only glanced through the marketing stuff so far rather than done any proper digging. Funny thing is that they'd probably be most use to me when travelling: I've got multiple monitors in the office, and a large external monitor at home, but when travelling for work I only have my laptop. So the ability to effectively carry a large monitor in my pocket or bag and slip it on when needed is something I could find useful. I wonder how my sysadmin might feel about that as an alternative to external monitors in my office? (Though the obvious drawback there is that you can't just show someone else what you are looking at).

so viture is gaining a pretty good name in the xr world. at the top are viture and xreal. there are some others out there, but those from what i have seen are at the top. the issue with viture's luma pro is that the camera lense in the middle is currently not ready to use. the software for it is being worked on. once they get that working than productivity is wide open. they have developed an app called spacewalker. in it you can setup multiple screens for computing on. the main problem is that at the moment the app is slow, buggy, and has issues where the screen will drift on its own. once the camera software is finished, then the drift issue should be resolved.
for productivity you might want to look at xreal:
or wait for the Viture Luma Ultra or Beast. the Viture Luma Ultra to maximize productivity you might want to get the neckband as well. the neckband has the google play store and also allows hand gestures among other features. it is not cheap though....going for $300. the Luma Beast uses an entire different screen tech and has the brightest screen of the Luma series lineup.

so back to my op, the Oakley Meta AI glasses are so much better than the Raybans.....mainly in battery life. with the raybans, i get maybe 4 hours before i have to charge it. the charging case is always nearby because of this. on the other hand, the oakley's so far i get over 8 hours of battery life. the speakers are way better than the raybans as well.
now as far as style, the white of the oakley's is very flashy, but i really like it. it is very hard to miss me when i have them on.......so all in all, i am very happy with them.

ok so i have my Viture Luma Pro glasses and i am loving it. it is basically a huge monitor but in glasses form. so here is my honest review:
pros:
it took a little getting used to. i was expecting something like my meta quest 3 headset.....it is not. the glasses does have a blackout feature, but light enters the glasses from all around. to offset that Viture comes with a 1,00 nit screen which is extremely bright. it feels premium and not cheap and plasticky. watching movies and playing games from my steam deck is truly an amazing experience. the sound quality is top notch with the Harmon Kardon speakers. the only issue i have with the sound is that it could be a tad louder. but it still delivers deep rich sounds. the myopic adjusters really make it so that for those who need glasses you can make it work without using your prescriptions.

there are a few things about it that i do not like. one is the fact that it is a wired device. it needs to be tethered to a device like a laptop, steam deck or any handheld gaming device, or phone. it can make it cumbersome depending on how you sit. the other thing i do not like is using the spacewalker app. this allows you to do at least 3 degrees of field or 3DOF. this allows the screen to stay put when you move your head. this mainly allows you to do productivity work. it allows you to have multiple screens up and running. as of right now the camera on the glasses do not work, but it will in future updates. you can get 6DOF if you buy the $300 neckband. but like it has been reported the app is a bit slow. and when you try to do any productivity work, the app moves and slides around. there are somethings that might help, but does require some work on your computer to make it useable. i have not tried this as i really do not see a need for me to use the glasses in such a way.

i must say their customer service is top notch. i complained that i got an email from not only Viture, but also from UPS on Monday stating that my glasses will arrive on Tuesday(this was last week). i thought that was odd. but it got so hyped. on Tuesday on UPS's website it stated that they have not even received the product to be shipped......so i contacted Viture. they told me that it was some kind of error on UPS and that my order will shipped shortly in the week. the quickness of the email is what blew me away. i even asked a few questions about 3DOF and i got an answer within an hours time. and after a few days of playing with it, the monochromatic lens on the right side broke. this is the blackout feature that helps in bright surroundings. the right side will not turn black. i contacted them today and explained that i needed the glasses for my tattoo session on the 6th of sept. they told me that i can keep the glasses until after the 6th. they gave me a shipping label, and once they receive it, they ship a brand new one to me........very happy with how they treated me and their quick responses. i can't say enough on the customer service.
i'll keep you guys posted if any other issues comes up. i hope they get the camera software up and running soon. curious to see how that fares.

ok here is a bit more on the Viture Luma Pro. what is really cool is that if you hook the glasses to a samsung phone or tablet, you can run samsung dex. if you never played around with dex, it basically turns the phone into a desktop in which the glasses becomes the monitor. what is cool is that you can make the phone as your trackpad. this is the easiest way that i found to watch or stream content. but you can also do productivity if you hook up a bluetooth keyboard and mouse.
another thing that i love is hooking up the glasses to my steam deck. i also bought the adapter where you can hook up the glasses and also a charging cable. this is essential with the steam deck as some games can run down the battery pretty quickly. but to be able to charge and use the glasses is amazing. and let me tell you playing games with the glasses is such a game changer for the steam deck........its fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
