    Did you buy it unlocked?

I've backed up paid apps on Helium and I've never rooted my current phone.

    Hibernation

Hibernated apps aren't even polling for notifications, so they can't receive or make notifications.

    Accurate WiFi Positioning?

GPS is still better. The problem with the GPS on phones is the quality of the antenna and it's size. You can probably buy a bluetooth GPS receiver. Not sure what apps work with those though.

    Wth! Isn't this dangerous?

It's because of the features of security apps. 1. It needs call/sms sending permissions because it's going to automatically send a message to a specified number from your contacts that your phone has been lost, or has changed a sim, including it's approximate location via GPS. 2. The edits to...

    Anyone ever try the Blackphone?

Sorry for getting tangential, but it did stem from a valid point of view IMO. The Blackphone is still not immune from government surveillance should it come down to that. It's basically a subscription based service which goes through a server which the NSA can access if they demand it (warrants...

can kitkat tablets be used as a phone to bluetooth?

The cellular radio isn't a standard feature. Some have it some don't. For example, Samsung sells different variants of the Tab 3, some are WiFi only, some have a phone app which basically just makes it an oversized phone. My Galaxy Tab Plus is basically an oversized Galaxy S2, and the Note 8.0...

What if Internet disconnects while downloading OS upgrade file

I think what he means on number 2 is that in the middle of installing the update, the phone runs out of battery. You know when applying an update, you see the Android mascot with a polygon thing spinning on his belly with the words "installing update"? That's what he meant. Running out of...

    Music Folder

It actually doesn't matter. You can make a folder and call it "Music", and the phone should detect them wherever they are.

    Anyone ever try the Blackphone?

No. But actively hiding it makes you a more likely target for surveillance. They're more likely to pass you over in surveillance because they see that you're just a normal schmuck. What I'm finding weird is that people seem to think that the NSA is literally listening in on everything you do...

What is the files size of android update?

Software updates that are just bug fixes can be as small as 10mb. The biggest I've experienced I think was nearly 2GB from Android 3.1 Honeycomb to Android 4.0 ICS on my Tab Plus. Granted though that came with an entirely new TouchWiz version which was pretty big.

    Anyone ever try the Blackphone?

My take has always been I don't have anything to hide. I'll always be more suspicious of people trying to hide things. Same goes for people who are too open though.

    Anyone ever try the Blackphone?

That's what I meant. People see privacy and they think it means hiding from NSA. Privacy in this case is hiding from anyone not named NSA.

    hi

Hello. And assuming I understand what you mean, here's the answer to the question: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rScFdoEWU44 I'm moving this thread to the Introductions forum as well.

    Anyone ever try the Blackphone?

So from what I gather, outgoing SMS and calls are encrypted by going through a data connection, then to the Blackphone servers, then to the recipient. So basically this needs both ends to have internet and the service, or at least an app to receive the SMS and call which can read the encryption...

Will playing a 1080p movie drain battery faster than a 720p movie?

Nope. Whatever color wallpaper you use, the LCD (any type) screen will still turn on all the backlights. Darker wallpaper to save power only works on OLED (whatever type screen that has OLED in the name) screens because each pixel in an AMOLED screen is basically a tiny light bulb (actually 3...

    Post your Android Desktop

HTC, Sony, and Nexus devices get Power+Down. Not sure for LG people. They used to do Power+Home like Samsung if I remembered correctly but I think they changed it.

    Note 3 Screen Turning Green

Whether or not you choose Samsung in the future, your concern should be on the type of screen to avoid this scenario (although Samsung does tend to put SAMOLEDs on their high end devices). Look for LCD type screens.

    Phone less gmail

@nick your comment seems to be out of place? Truth is Google is still the most convenient place to backup certain stuff. Depends on you how much you choose to trust them, but it also depends on what info you choose to trust them with. You're still the one deciding which info is made available to...

Playstore showing apps installed that are not installed

That's on a PC right? Don't worry much about it. Clicking installed will still give you the option to install to your device. The Play Store database just did not get an uninstall notification since you wiped it and didn't properly uninstall, that's why it shows as installed. However, clicking...

    Note 4 on Sprint

Well depends. What is your current phone? Are you possibly getting it on carrier upgrade? It also depends on your usage. I have a Note 2 and see no reason to upgradd for the time being, since Samsung already announced I'm getting Lollipop anyway.

    Which tablet to buy?

Usually, having the same brand devices work good due to familiarity. Having different branded devices sometimes leads to annoyances (I know, experienced it). Which is in your case, I'd say the Sony, unless you find something about it that would make another device as an overall better choice...

I'm having some trouble connecting to my PC for tethering. For some reason I just cant get it to work. MyPhoneExplorer, another program I am trying to use also will not recognize the phone.
