Root 1-Click Root

Beat me too this by just a few moments. Nice post, I just unrooted and rooted to test and it works flawless.
 
This uses the sdk debug mode drivers. Can't get drivers to install on my pc when i'm in debug mode....

So I can't adb, and I can't use this "one click" dealio. LOL

Not that I really have a use for rooting :D

Agreed, my replacement couldn't come at a better time!

Though I'm curious, if one roots, are they ineligible to receive the rumored Froyo 2.2 update in the next few weeks? If downloaded and installed, will it unroot the device?
 
Just used it, Works like its supposed to. It seems as though my DX runs smoother after i rooted it and installed setCPU and autokiller. Wireless Tethering works like a charm as well. I'm loving my first taste of root!

I did. It left behind the superuser.apk and I still had the ninja icon, however I tried to use an app for root users and it couldn't get permission. I rooted it again, and had no issue. I did it twice already and each time it worked.

I went ahead and did it..i also did not want to root but the free wifi tethering was just to tempting...and now it's just a click of a button (actually two clicks). It's so easy a caveman can do it (note: i mean no offense to any cavemen on this forum).

What USB settings were you using? I tried to unroot but it would just hang right after I pushed the button and it would say Mounting the /system directory...

PC Mode and make sure usb debugging is on.

Before starting, make sure the drivers are loaded (see my link above for the .msi installer for the usb debug drivers).

I could never get adb working right, but FINALLY installed the drivers through the *.msi file and bam, it's all working like it should.

edit: nevermind, this is for the unrooting... havn't tried that yet.
 
Ok. Question. I'm not a newbie to Android, but I've never rooted. I'm tempted to root with this one click method as it sounds like super user access for dummies.

Here's question: Does it pay for me to do so, if I don't care to tether? Should I wait for Froyo.

Be nice to me. Remember: I have the light saber. ;)

I've never rooted my last android phones. Because there's a backout for this, it's really the only reason that I tried.

If you have to ask...... no. :D
 
I contemplated this, and went ahead and rooted just to see what the fuss was about. The only thing I have really done so far is remove the bloatware I didn't want and play around with Google's Wifi Tether. So far, seems like a pretty useful thing to do, but I will probably go to Froyo ASAP and then wait for root or try this method again.

And this worked in about five minutes, I downloaded and extracted to folder on desktop, installed the Motorola drivers in the folder (Windows 7, 32-bit), plugged the phone in and let the drivers install (in PC mode), ran DroidXRoot.exe and it let it do it's thing for a few seconds. The first time I hit continue I didn't toggle the bluetooth switch fast enough, but I ran it again and it worked perfectly. Good decision so far.

You are a guide and can't decide to root or not? Interesting :D :D

Ok, there's the hardness, lol. Again, I really have no desire to root, but did just for curiosity. Yay, I have root. I have no intention of removing pre-installed programs, or other things.

All of my past android devices worked very well, and my droid x works very well out of the box. It's usually the 1%ers that like to tweak and stuff!
