Help 1 issue with gingerbread 2.3

Did a factory reset on Wednesday. I still get the white screen of death more than I used to but the memory leak seems to have stopped. I've re-loaded it up with all my applications.

I've only gotten the HTC logo screen once or twice a day since I updated mine.

my BIGGEST problem with this update though is that my email will not work for crap. I've formatted sd card, hard reset, factory data reset, you name it, still no email. I've deleted my email accounts and re-added them multiple times, and still nothing. I've changed every mail setting imaginable, still nothing. all folders show up, even says I have (whatever number) emails on the server but it simply will not display even one single email in any of my folders! even if I click the "get email from servers" thingy, it still will not show one single email. WTFFFFFFF!!!! I NEEEEEEED email on my phone for work!!

I know it isn't right, nor will it notify you when you get an email, but you can check it through the browser if need be... And you can bookmark it or make a shortcut to the page.... At least until they update the update:rolleyes:

My email is working fine, are you using exchange/pop3 etc...

I'm using "other (POP3/IMAP)" for 2 seperate yahoo emails, a juno email, and an aol email. they all do the same thing; everything loads correctly, all folders show fine, but it won't show ANY emails in ANY of the folders for any of the email accts. at times it will say how many emails are in whatever folder, showing that thing that says "get more emails (757 emails on server)", but even if I click that it still wont show any emails. I've tried changing the DL settings from days to # of emails, tried several settings from each, still nothing, just displays "no emails", even if I have new emails. it started the instant the update to gingerbread was installed.

for the time being I'm using the yahoo mail droid app for my main work email, and I actually like it better than the oem mail app. but it's still driving me nuts knowing that something on my phone doesnt work properly.

on a side note, is there any way to uninstall the gingerbread update and go back to 2.2? factory data reset didnt affect gingerbread. cuz I'm thinking I could try re-installing gingerbread to see if that fixes it.

No way to "uninstall" the update. It kinda sucks for all you unrooted folk... I wish it wasn't the case. I have heard of a few people getting sprint to give them new phones or credits or a few other things because the update was so screwy. I would suggest to anyone who cannot live with the update's bugs to call Sprint and POLITELY do your best to get something from them for jacking up your phone. They want to keep your business, and if they handle this situation well, it would probably go a long ways towards them keeping customers.... Good luck all, and post up if Sprint helps you out...;)

Sprint is replacing my phones well exchanging them for new ones so they can try to fix this issue.

As I said before... I think it is the one bug this update has... At least it isn't a huge issue. Maybe they will release a fix that will help repair it. I am glad they released gingerbread for this phone. I am impressed that they would deem it worthy of an upgrade. There are a lot of phones with way better specs (on paper) that haven't gotten an update to 2.3 yet. We are ahead of the curve....;)

I am very happy we got it to. Especially coming from Tmobile and have the motorola cliq which wasn't getting any updates since 1.5 and when we did the get 2.0 update it made the phone slow, laggy, restart all the time. So this shift is a huge change to me. I love my phone, just don't like the bug it caused.

Fixed!!! Regarding the slow down when pressing the home button, where the screen went to an "HTC logo", and and then read "loading" for perhaps about 15 seconds. I called Sprint Support. They had me pull the battery and re-boot. They also said they pushed along a few "refresh" commands to my phone. Thanks SPRINT!!!

when you do this is it a master reset or just a battery pull?

Usually, in my experience they have you pull the battery, they do a couple things on their end to push stuff to the phone, then have you replace the battery and reboot. No factory reset unless you have big issues.

I guess this is kind of good news. I called Sprint yesterday, not about this problem, but about my bill and then I asked about it. The guy told me that they are in fact coming out with an update to fix it and it was set to come out and then they found bugs in it so they are working on it again now. Hopefully it will come out soon.

FOUND THE FIX!! Go to Settings-->System Updates-->Update PRL. Takes a couple minutes to run, but totally fixed the problem on me and my wife's HTC Evo 4Gs. Please let me know if this helps anyone else :-)

did this the other day and still haven't the problem on the shift. I am going to try it again. My phone just did the htc thing about 10 times in a row. Last night my phone died and it was off for about 15 minutes before I realized it, plugged it up and then turned it back on and didn't have the problem for the rest of the night, then this morning it started again

Motoxxman,

How do you setup an juno email account? I've tried seemingly every combo on my EVO4G and it alwasys says the server is not responding while validating the account info.

Thanks in advance,
David

I just registered here to reply in this thread. I too recieved the OTA Gingerbread update when it first was released. Since then I have had two very annoying problems.

First, I lost a considerable chunk of internal memory after the update, about 40-60MB. It took me two weeks to figure out what happened. Long story short: my contacts storage data had grown to nearly 70MB, 7-15 times more than normal. Something screwy must have happened during the update. I was able to fix this issue by turning off sync for my Google account and wiping the data and cache for Contacts Storage. I was then unable to sync to my Google account and kept getting force closes on a particular Google process. This solution in this thread solved that problem:

http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...nc-service-framework-force-close-2-3-rom.html

I wiped the data in Gmail storage and Calendar storage as described in the thread and I was then able to re-sync. I ultimately gained back close to 70MB in internal storage. The phone runs much smoother now (I was getting low-on-memory alerts).

The second problem I have encountered is the dreaded "white screen of death" reboot. The problem seems to be happening a lot less since I freed up some space on the phone, but it still happens multiple times a day, and almost always after installing an update to an app. It generally always happens when exiting an app. I read somewhere that HTC cranked up the memory settings a little too aggressively in this release and it is causing widespread problems, so a patch is probably in the near future. Now that I have resolved the first problem, I will resist throwing this thing in a lake for a short while to see if Sprint/HTC can extract their heads from their hind quarters.

Hope this helps somebody.

Good info gregin. I thought to myself that the loading screen issue might have something to do with a memory shortage somewhere.... Hopefully a patch comes through soon!

Would make sense since it looks like a memory leak, the more free memory you have the better..

Thats what I've been saying, cuz those of us with large sd cards have the problem much less often or not at all

POP3/IMAP, then the standard email and password entry. Worked fine for me; well, before the update that is. Since the update I'm the single loner who's email doesnt work at all

My phone was buggin' out today... can't open my google chat app, battery life was garbage, and the loading screen every time I backed out of an app. Stupid updatel! I rebooted, hopefully that will clear it up for a bit.

On another note, does anyone have a problem with sms resending upon a reboot? It happened when I rebooted just a little while ago. Kinda weird.

Mine's actually done this a few times. I'll reboot my phone and then it'll send out one or two random texts that aren't even recent.

Ok, well I'm new to the forum and this problem brought me here. So i would like to start out by saying hi everyone!!!

so i had this issue since the update and have since done a soft rest, hard rest over the phone with customer service and today i took the phone in to a repair shop and they did a hard reset and uploaded 2.3.3 directly instead of OTA and guess what, still have the same problem. So called customer service when i got home and told them to send me a new phone. So we will see what happens.
