1-year contract for Verizon

Yeah I wasn't sure which it was, I just remember it was there.

Verizon let me upgrade early once, but I doubt they will let anyone right now. If they did, you'd be upgrading before they boosted the ETF to 375 and that is something I'm sure they'd rather avoid. At least thats my opinion.

does this apply to all lines on a FAMILY plan over $59.99?

I am a secondary line on a family plan that is about $170/mo. The base plan is $109.99. Can I upgrade my line in 12 mos?

I believe they'd let you, but you would still be renewing the family plan back to 2 years. Your line, as long as its attached to a family shared plan, doesn't act as its own plan so you could both upgrade, but if only of you did, the plan would still be renewed back to 2 years.

No, a secondary line on a family share plan is only 9.99.

The ETF on the "Advanced Devices" will go down 10 a month as opposed to the 5 a month on "Dumb Phones". It is to prevent people abusing the BOGO on phones, specifically the Blackberries.

I know. I was just saying that I doubt VZW would do an early upgrade with the current ETF at 175, when their plan to push it to 375 is around the corner. Just wouldn't make sense to otherwise, especially with the smart phones recently released and around the corner.

First, its going to be 350, not 375. Secondly, there are exceptions to everything. We make exceptions on a daily basis to accommodate customers in certain situations. As a company, if we see that the customer truly is between a rock and a hard place we are going to bend over backwards to help them out. Now if it is some joe schmo who comes in and says they want to upgrade early because it is their birthday and they just got a new phone 2 months ago, we will laugh and ask them politely to get the hell out.

Alright. It's not my birthday, but I got an original Storm, can I get an early upgrade? You know, since the Storm was a rocky affair for several months. ;) Just messing, I can wait two weeks to upgrade.

I bought the Storm on Jan 19. I called, without complaining, begging or anything else, and they upgraded me to a Droid. And my ETF is still $175.

Really? Lucky you, I tried to email and they said no. Maybe I should call? Everyone's ETF is still 175, it won't change until they roll out the new ETF officially. Which won't affect current customers, until they sign a new contract after that date.

You may be right. I'm on a family plan, and I think it's $79.98 for a family share plan.

Taken straight from vzw.com while logged on and under the upgrade link:

"You can get a new phone every year with Annual Upgrade. Sign up for a 2-year agreement on a calling plan of at least $49.99 and you can purchase a new phone at its promotional price through My Verizon every year with a 2-year renewal (upgrade fee may apply)."

So looks like I was right, and i'm on a family share plan.

If that were really true, why then would it take eighteen months to get to the $170 mark, which is where it is after only one month currently? This is nothing more than a fee increase. If VZ really wanted to make it similar, they should make it go down by $20/mo for the first 6 months, which is what is going to discourage the BOGO abuse without harming the non-abusing customers.
