Help 1302 Please Go away!

Hey guys, how are you doing? I'm hoping someone can help me out here. I recently purchased my LG Optimus M (my first android ever) about a week ago used, and I've been having a blast on it, except for a few problems. One of the most annoying being a repeated text message I get from a 1302 short code usually saying "POLL" or just recently "WAKE UP".

So before I came here to beg of your assistance, I tried to do a little research and see if I could get the problem to stop on my own. First I called Metro, but they were of little help, even though I'm sure the customer rep was doing his best, in the end all he could do was give me a bunch of catchphrases to try and get the text messages to stop. I've tried replying with "STOP" "QUIT" "OPT OUT" "END ALL" "END" "UNSUBSCRIBE" "HELP" etc, and it still comes. I tried to use my google-fu to come up with something else, and I had one link that told me to go into my settings> Applications> and unclick the Unknown Sources and then try and force stop MYExtras, but that didn't work. I've notice whenever I sign into the default Metro "Mobile IM" I get a whole bunch of them all of sudden, so perhaps that program is triggering them?

I'm downloading AIM off the market as I type so I still have way to use it without going into Metro's default program. (I eventually hope to gain enough knowledge to root my phone and get rid of all this crappy bloatware, and do more awesome stuff)

That sounds like you are getting a text from somewhere and it has nothing to do with any apps. Metro recycles phone numbers as soon as they can, so you might be getting something that the last person who had the number did.

You should ask the person who had the phone about it and ask how to get it stopped.

The only thing is, this is the same phone number I've had for years! I bought the phone from a cell dealer, and I had metro switch the phone over to my number. When I had a Samsung Messenger I never got these type of spam messages. :(

look in the optimus m all things root form and see how to root your phone. then look at the apps that's safe to remove thread. also your email may be linked to your phone. So you might want to try those things, i hope this info was helpful

Well, from what I have found there is no real way of stopping spam sms. I did read a couple times that replying to any message makes it worse so texting stop or unsubscribe was probably a bad idea. I checked the stock sms app and found nothing to block numbers, however I use handscent sms and in settings there is a blacklist option which allows you to manually block any number. I have not used it so I am unsure of the effectiveness but it is worth a shot right? I don't get spam text thank god so I have no way to test it but you can try. Just make sure that you disable message notification in the Stock sms app after installing handscent otherwise you will be overloaded on notification messages. And also because the stock app can't block or blacklist numbers you would still receive the spam notification if you don't disable it.

Good luck with your issue and hopefully this helps atleast a little.

Since its your number, it sounds like you have a issue with an app. I'd say your best bet would be rooting your phone and flashing a new ROM.

i agree, that's the same thing i said to him. i think the app that maybe causing the spam is called, my extras. its a Metro Pcs bloatware app, ( meaning its a app that's safe to remove ) but you have to be rooted to remove the app. or you can go into the app and try to disable it, but i think it turns back on when you power your phone off and on.
