18% ram free; is this normal?

I have Facebook, Gmail, The Weather Channel, Google, Music, News and Tips wigets active. Earth live wallpaper is the only other thing I can think of thats running besides "android system info", which is how I got 18% free (86mb). This is from a battery removal boot-up. do I have too many wigets running?

Not necessarily. All you should look for is how your device handles. If it runs smoothly and you like how it runs you are fine.

Another note, the log file seems huge! Over 100 pages (screens) in 20 minutes. This is why I was thinking I have too much running. It runs fine, but given that I'm an android noob, I thought this system would run "leaner"

colchiro, my thoughts exactly. Is there a theme or rom that rids your phone of all the "bloat" and lets you start with a somewhat clean slate?

18% free?! That is FAR from normal for me! Just checked my DX, and I'm running around where I usually am... 9%. I don't remember the last time I saw 18+% free. And know what? It runs fine, so I don't worry about it. I have plenty of other crap to worry about than something that doesn't actually affect anything.

All the roms I've checked have had some bloatware removed and some go to extremes and remove Blur with all blur apps.

I'd recommend Apex 1.3.1 as a good first rom, but make sure you backup your stock setup so you can get future OTA upgrades.

Log files are always huge, with massive data generated for only minutes. Look for any errors, though. (In the Android System Info app, the errors are colored red, which makes them easy to spot.) These errors will give you clues on what may be going wrong.
