Root [1st Gen] Roms & rooting

So some quick questions first off how is cm7 running on the fire? Is it stable? I have been looking around here and xda and have been checking it all out but I don't see any specific threads that give all the info straight forward. Do you need to root your fire to change to cm7? What recovery are people using?

I'm looking to boot clockworkmod recovery and then flash cm7 to the fire. Is this even possible and if so is there a guide?

I have flashed roms to my phone so I do know a little but just enough to get things going if I got a path to follow. Thanks for any help.

P.s. I see a good amount of threads about bricking....is this frequent or even possible?

CM7 is very stable, I've been using it for a couple of months without any issues and yes, you would need to root your Kindle. There are 2 recoveries available: TWRP and CWM, TWRP has pretty much been abandoned and CWM is now the preferred method going forward for the devs.

You can easily install CWM and then CM7 by following THESE instructions. I recently changed from TWRP to CWM and used this method to install it and the version of CM7 that is included in the link.

There's always a possibility (but very unlikely) that you may brick your device, most of the time it is user error but it can be fixed rather easily. If you have any other questions just ask.

So all that seems straight forward just a couple more questions. So is cm7 included in the hotfile link he provides? Is rootexplorer provided or so I get that also? I've usually used esfile explorer. It sounds like after rooting I throw the .zip onto my fire and then just shift the files around with rootexplorer...so I dont really need my computer for this then?

Sorry about that, the link for the CM7 version that I'm using can be found in THIS thread, they are closely related so I got them mixed up. Root Explorer is a paid app that I feel every root user should have but you should be able to do everything will ESFile Explorer right on your Kindle. Just be sure to follow the directions and if you aren't sure about something just ask.

Thank you very much airmaxx you helped out with everything I needed. Very fast also I would say. You guides sure know what your doing and again thanks. If I got any other questions or problems I will throw up here.

So I don't think I did it right but it worked. I opened adb and used it to root my fire but every time I used root check to see if I was rooted it said no. So I said to hell with it and installed clockworkmod recovery anyways and then flashed cm7 and it worked perfect. I didn't go through all the steps of gscript or root explorer. Don't know but everything seems to be working fine. I just put cwm on and flashed the rom and it all worked perfect.
