Root [1st Gen] Rooted KF can't use Kindle App

I've successfully rooted my 1st gen Kindle Fire, and I'm mostly happy with how everything is working. The only problem I'm having is that now that it's rooted I'm no longer able to access books purchased from Amazon through the Kindle app as the device will no longer register. Is there any way around this, or do you forfeit the Kindle app for the joys of everything else when rooting?

You should be able to register the kindle app with the same details as you did with your kindle. It will show as your android tablet if you access it via the amazon website but downloading and reading the books you purchased from amazon should not be a problem.

I would suggest reinstalling the app from the google play store to see if this fixes it, assuming you installed a custom rom.
If you are still running amazon's customised OS and the only change you was was to root the tablet, it should still work as before.
