Root [1st Gen] Should i Root

I just got a Kindle fire last week and i want to know what exactly my benefits are if i root it. I have a rooted and overclocked LG esteem and i have not had any issues with it. but as for the fire what will i gain other than just having a 7 inch tablet with very limited storage space?

I have rooted LG Esteem as well, and I have a not rooted Kindle Fire. Why would you like to root it? What features are you trying to gain? I have read on forums that some people with rooted Kindle have troubles accessing free Amazon content. I wouldn't root mine; I don't think there is much to gain by rooting Kindle.

i was thinking the same thing, eh, i might just get an acer or asus and root the hell out of it lol. i like the kindle the way it is, i was just wondering if there was anything to gain by it.

I use the original one. I have rooted it mainly to use it as a Wifi hotspot. Now, my root also enables me to access internet at my school via proxy.

i use the Broken Out Rom, with an overclock plaque. i mostly use it as a hotspot for my kindle and laptop when i am at work.

I don't use tethering that much. It seems there is a Wifi everywhere I spend my time. I mainly use tethering as a backup for my home DSL internet when it gets slow for some reason.

I would like the Play Store on the Fire cause I can't see paying for some of the same apps twice, I just haven't had a lot of time to mess with it yet. Is there any way to side load the play store without having to mess with root?

Root only. Not possible on the stock setup.

Do you have any issues with Amazon prime content or with Kindle free book rental after rooting?

Never used these so I am not sure.

The only way to access the play store in the fire is by obtaining root. And on top of that you can root, then install ota root keeper to restore non-root status so that you may use amazon content

And according to the app description at the store, the root keeper does not work perfectly on all devices. So, I am not risking access to my free Amazon content. In addition, I don't use any apps on my Esteem that I would love to have on my Kindle.

I rooted my KF because I had just rooted my HTC EVO 3D and wanted to gain more experience with the process of rooting itself. I love my KF even more than I did before, mainly because of the ROM. Not only that, but like others mentioned, you can install the Play Store on it and get way more apps that the original store. Yes, the KF has limited storage space, but then again, I've never been one to leave huge files loaded on any personal device...except for my phone which I store anywhere from 3-5 GBs of music on (if that.)
