Root [1st Gen] (Solved) Changing build.prop file

I noticed that I cant access alot of apps on the google play store due to incompatibility issues. I heard of editing the build.prop file to make it be recognized as a different device but Ive tried that and it didnt work. Maybe i didnt do it right??? Is there a specific way to do it for the fire? Or maybe an alternative method?

I've always used root explorer to change the build.prop...given not on my KF since it isn't rooted, but any method to change it should work;). Anytime you make a change to the build.prop be sure to keep a backup of the original and you have to reboot for the changes to take effect.

Thank you but my problem isn't how to edit it, its correctly editing it in order to correctly fool the playstore into thinking my device is something else. Like I edited the values of the model and manufacturer, but after I save and reboot, I still get the same incompatibility massage on the same apps.

Okay...try changing it to "samsung" and "GT-I9100"

Have you changed anything else in the build.prop (specifically LCD density)?

Yea I just want at least a better avaliability of apps for my fire. So what parts of the build.prop do I need to change specifically?

I would think what you are changing is the the best to change. Not all apps are going to be available as there are parts of the build.prop that aren't going to match any other device. You may have a better selection if you try flashing CM or another rom.

Probabily, I'm getting bored with my kindle fire so maybe ill change the rom to cyanogenmod, I know it wipes the device but does it also undo root?

I am not rooted but you should whip in recovery when you flash the rom like any other device with TWRP

Almost every single incompatible app I've loaded onto the Kindle Fire works perfectly. Maybe one exception in 20 different apps.

Here are two ways to get your incompatible apps to your Kindle Fire using your Android phone, when obviously they don't appear in your Kindle Fire's Play Store:

Method 1:

1) Install the desired Kindle app on your phone first.
2) Use Titanium backup to backup the newly installed app on your phone.
3) Within Titanium backup on your phone, click the new app's backup and use "Send to..." to email the app to your Kindle Fire's email acct , or your PC, or wherever.
4) Get the .apk to your Kindle via USB or whatever, (if you didn't directly email it there).
5) Install the app on your Kindle (click from within ES file explorer, apk installer, etc.)
6) Betcha it works on your Kindle!

Method 2:

1) Make a Nandroid backup with Rom Manager or directly from CWM on your phone.
2) Install the AppExtractor app on your phone.
3) Extract any/all your apks onto your phone SD card via the phone's AppExtractor application. This extracts apps from your Nandroid backup. You can select from which backup.
4) Copy the desired apk from your phone's SD card, where AppExtractor stored them, to your Kindle, via USB, or email it, or whatever.
5) Install the app on your Kindle (click from within ES file explorer, apk installer, etc.)
6) Betcha it works on your Kindle!

A few notes: Operable, yet technically incompatible apps moved from your phone to your Kindle will show as installed apps in the "Play Store," but it won't let you update them. I've seen very few apps that won't work on your Kindle Fire, and those that don't will force close or have strange graphics. Some, like SpeedTest, work and look fine, but are "phone sized" on the Kindle display. I haven't seen an app that screws up the Kindle, though some misbehave as previously mentioned. Not to say you can't cause harm... your mileage may vary. (<--- disclaimer)

You should get cm7 too, that way you'll get access to all apps, if you want a walkthrough there's a guy on YouTube that does all walkthroughs for the rooted fire. His name is nat3mil, spelled like that.
