Root 2.01.605.11 kernel

As the title says.
Here is a way to get the kernel from the 2.01.605.11 OTA that came out yesterday (1.26.12)

Directions:
1. Download both files, and put them on sd-card.
file 1
file 2
2. reboot to recovery.
3. Flash file 1. (this is the modules for wifi, so it does not error.)
4. after flashing file 1, DO NOT REBOOT.
5. go to Developer Menu and then reboot to bootloader.

6. press power, then press vol + to accept the .zip (the boot.img that updates the kernel)
7. Reboot. Enjoy.

Hey AndyBones. This didn't work for me. After following your instructions "note for note," I'm still at software level .6 and I still have only a 4-bar signal graph. Is there a step missing? Or is it because I'm unlocked, rooted and have Amon Ra recovery installed?

Hmm, just after I finished typing the above, my phone notified me that there is an update to load. It's downloading now. I don't get it. I thought I just installed it. Anyway, it finished downloading and then popped up a dialog that I can't make/receive calls while it's installing. I pressed OK. Says it'll take 10 minutes to install. I'll post back later.

10 minutes later and nothing happened.

I followed your procedure a 2nd time. Nothing. Tried Settings > Software Update > Check New, and response is that there are no updates. About Phone > Software shows I'm still at .6.

this is just a kernel my friend..
this won't update your software.
this wont update your radio.
it will update your kernel version, and that be all.
radio is only updated by physically accepting the OTA update.

this kernel is not stopping the OTA??
OTA would not occur. So then I installed Scott's 1.6 CleanROM thinking it had the update and it doesn't. It seems the only way I'm going to get the OTA update is if I undo the Mainver and revert to stock.

Regardless of the mainver.
in order to get the OTA update you have to do this
1) load the stock RUU 1.02.605.6
2) relock bootloader
3) put on stock recovery
4) accpet the OTA

OR

download the OTA RUU that was JUST released! :-)

I'm trying to download, but every time I enter the 2 words, nothing happens. And there are like 10 download buttons making it difficult to know which one to press.

OK, finally on the 5th try it downloaded, took 2 hours. So...

I ran the new RUU utility, twice, and both times it got as far as "updating signature" and then failed with "unknown error 155." Maybe there are steps to follow before running the utility? There are so many threads I've read the last few days on this subject of manually updating to .11, and such divergent information, it's hard to know the right procedure for my situation which currently is CleanROM 1.6 (maybe have to revert mainver?). I'm game for trying anything at this point. I've factory wiped and restored user apps so many times now, I promoted myself to Restore Expert. LOL

The first few times I tried this it didn't work. I did receive the OTA, but never received the updated kernel. Hence the Wifi didn't work. I tried Andy's method several times to no avail. I finally redownloaded the PH98IMG file and recopied it to the SD. It appears to have taken this time. We'll see if Wifi is back on boot.

UPDATE: Bingo! Wifi is back. The first time I D/L'ed the file it was from the XDA link. Even if it's the same file, it appears this link worked properly and the other didn't.

Thanks to AB

PS, not that it should make a difference, but I also mounted the SD from recovery and loaded the file from there vs. dragging and dropping when the phone was booted.

I just discovered that your steps 1 and 2 are reversed. You have to relock BEFORE running the RUU .exe. When I ran the steps reversed, I got error 155 after about 1 minute into the RUU process. At least that was my experience. I'm running the RUU now AFTER I relocked and it's 23% of the way done. Fingers crossed.

not to be a jerk but this thread is for the new kernel, not for the RUU..
my suggestion to you is to pull the rom.zip from the ruu rename it to PH98IMG.zip and relock bootloader and load in hboot to get the new RUU.
or try locking bootloader for RUU
fasboot oem relock

here is how to pull rom.zip from ruu..

I was trying to get the new radio (which I finally got). If that's not the same as getting "the new kernel" I apologize. When you said "load the stock RUU 1.02.605.6", I thought you were talking about running the RUU .exe file. Again, my apologies if I misinterpreted.

no need to apologize my friend, I'm sorry that may have came out the wrong way :/. I just didn't want people to get confused.
The radio, and kernel are two separate things.
The one downside about having S-ON, opposed to S-OFF, we can't flash radios.
So the only way to get new radio is by accepting the OTA update, or running the new RUU.
:)

Thornev, you helped me out with one of your posts, i couldnt remember where it was but here it is
Thanks
I don't know what it was I posted that helped you, but thanks for the thanks, and I'm glad when I can help. I put many hours into reading so many threads in a few different forums about installing ROMs and kernels, and understanding the software architecture of the Rezound. I learned a lot thanks to all the people who contribute what they know.
