2.1 FAIL emergency rollback

So let me.... get this straight... after you root your phone, you can't restore it back to stock if say, something happens and you need to get another for insurance purposes?

Normal rooting, yes, you can.

The leaked 2.1 is if you do the ROM. People say you can with the leaked 2.1 RUU, but until I see it, I wouldn't believe it.

So in order to, basically, get the 'newest and greatest' (being the latest release of leaked 2.1) you have the give up the option to restore to factory defaults?

Or root first and flash one of the ROMs based from it. Otherwise it's a gamble if you will be stuck or not.

IMO, wait for the update unless you think you'll want to root eventually.

There is always exceptions to the norm. For most people the RUU exe option has improved there Hero a lot. I would try to run the exe again after a boot. "Pull The battery out". If you have insurance on it you could simply drop it in the toilet. There is a tremendous amount of documentation and knowledge here on the forum and over at XDA. You will get better results by not "crapping" all over eveything. Sorry you have troubles with your Hero. Lets stay positive and see if we can get it running again. Hang in there. It's the weekend and this is an adventure. Good luck friend.

reinstalled using RUU exe file... will not install a single app or make a single change other than sync with my google account....

what is first thing I should do? if the sound thing.. please link me to specific instructions .... thx much for being patient with me

still have audio problem... from the link to the file AudioFixEris.zip

what exactly do I do with this file.. it is full of stuff... read through the thread over there and apparently they all know how to use it.. do I rename it update.zip and run it like a std rom update?

You should always wait and research before flashing anything to your phone. The RUU had specific warnings about the hazards of install.........The custom ROMS already used the RUU and were optimized.

Just boot to recovery and install from sd like u would a ROM. No need to change the name

The recovery page looks different... guess it is stock recovery? Anyway it does not work.. .tried rooting also using the two methods clearly outlined in several places... one of which I had done originally prior to the RUU update. I guess it is impossible to root with the RUU. I keep running into errors from not allowed remotely to file not found. Yes... DO NOT INSTALL these roms or hacks if you need a phone. It sure looks pretty, too bad I cannot hear anyone. sour grapes... chfields... please email me at least weekly to stay FAR FAR from temptation

EDIT: YES YES YES!!! here is the FIX
1) you installed RUU
2) now mucked up.. cannot get past flash_image not found etc.
>>3>> FIX is here..http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc...pair-your-bootloader-after-using-2-1-ruu.html

Specifically the solution is called> How-To repair your bootloader after using the 2.1 RUU

note: I used recovery-RA-heroc-v1.6.2.img
