2.1 OTA Beginning 5/11/2010

My only request: please continue to update the first post with information, including if any leakers are getting the OTA. Then clean up the other crap (including this post).

I had to take my phone to Verizon had a issue when the charger plug and the home screen scrolling to the left. They are sending me a replacement, if it arrives and is running 1.5 I'm thinking root. If v3 is actually the OTA seems like a no brainer.

I don't understand how people can be intimated by other people over the COMPUTER! Id just laugh in peoples faces if they got hostile or just simply ignore them. And nobody is forcing anybody to do anything its up to you if you choose to log it or not w.e if i get it I'm going to log .

Don't get me wrong, my feelings aren't going to be hurt by anything that anyone says here. I'm a manager in a machine shop so I'm sure I've been called much worse than I've ever seen here. :P My point was meant to be: I'm sure that there would be a lot more people that did receive the update ready to share the log of the update if they didn't read such negativity being spewed about.

That's all I have to say about that because I'd hate to be moderated on my second post. ;)

I'll just throw up a flag when I see the update notification and have someone walk me through logging it or resort back to the video camera idea.

I had the SAME problem, as well as trackball issues. I took it to VZ and they discovered I had 2.1, then proceeded to tell me he warranty was voided...

Lucky you they didn't notice that!

Was that within the last few days? That doesn't seem to add up if they are now pushing out a 2.1 OTA update.

*Supposedly*

About a month ago. He said if I could get it back to 1.5 I could return it. I turned it into insurance as I had been keeping up with the "you'll never be able to downgrade". Like 2 days later, they discovered how to downgrade:eek:

Take it back now, if you have leak v3 there is no way they can tell you have the leaked version. Just tell them you got the OTA.

Those updates in the 1st post... Leakers are worried about whether or not they will receive the OTA. It looks like you dont need to worry.

I question that poll, I don't think people are reading it correctly.

As of right now you still can't downgrade unless you're rooted.

Yup, that's what I was thinking.

I turned it into insurance two days before they found out how to downgrade. The problem that made me turn it in was that my microphone and trackball went completely out. Not intermittently, but completely. :( I even flashed it a few times.

I sure was shocked at the results. We have had no reports of v3 leakers getting the OTA here, and I think there has been 1 on some other boards, yet they represent the largest part of the population to receive the OTA so far in that poll.
The only thing is that it does coincide with what OTD has said about people being afraid to post here even though they received it.
Definitely more people voted in there than we have seen reporting getting the OTA.
Who knows...

V3 Leak DOES allow you to use WiFi in Airplane mode.

Hmm.... I just tried that, and it appears you're right. It's just not a special checkbox in the "Wi-Fi" menu like I was expecting for something like this. But I turned on "Airplane Mode" then turned on "Wi-Fi", and there it was.

I think at this point I may be guilty of hoping a little TOO hard that the "official" OTA release isn't the v3 I already have. The leak does seem to boot up a little faster, but as a trade-off, there seems to be a system-wide lagginess to everything. Things that normally respond to a press in <1 second now take 3 or 4 seconds (especially on the alarm clock).

Other mysteries I'd like solved: none of the e-mail service enhancements seem to be on the leak v3 either, unless I'm missing something. That, and there does seem to be a file size difference that's perplexing... VZW Twitter feed does say it's ~77mb.

Why would v3 leak and the OTA be the same build numbers but different file sizes? My head hurts.

One totally wipes everything on your phone and installs itself from scratch, and the other leaves certain things in place and just installs or upgrades whatever needs to be. That is why they are different sizes.
But the end result with either one is exactly the same. Same improvements. Missing some of the improvements that we originally were expecting. Same bugs, same build numbers etc.

So basically, why are we all waiting for the OTA? Why not just flash to v3?

OTA = upgrade...
2.1 v3 = fresh install... it wipes your phone and carries ALL system files

On Twitter feed, they mention that the OTA DOES wipe out the phone data... but who knows what's what anymore. Makes sense an update would be smaller.

I guess I'll know along with everyone else, when (if) it updates...

Thats what I figured, but I also figure that I held out this long, so Im just gonna wait till it comes at this point rather than going through the steps of flashing.
I guess there is the real long shot possibility that they made some very minor changes since the last leak, but it doesnt seem so. Especially with all the numbers matching up.

Just freaked myself out. Restarted my phone to fix the Leak Audio Bug. Apparently, I was holding the phone by the volume button, and still have a leak image on my SD card, because instead of starting, my phone started updating...

Until it saw the ROM was older than the OS on the phone....

The adrenaline is starting to wear off a bit....

Because V3 is not the finished product, still has minor issues, and the OTA should correct that. As well as the OTA has a few more features.

Not so sure of this. OTA still has 50% without signal bug. Still shows lower signal bars than normal.
Did not receive pinch to zoom upgrade in google maps. Does not have voice to text key on stock keyboard for texting, does not have friendstream, did not receive 3D gallery...
Nothing seems to be improved from v3.
