2.1 OTA Beginning 5/11/2010

Err...........the majority of all software updates or releases , for all platforms, normally occur on tuesdays................henceforth, I believe this one to be true.................finally !

Everyone should keep in mind that they are saying that the OTA will START tomorrow. That does not mean everyone will get it tomorrow.

Good point. Another reason why I'm not getting my hopes up just yet. If I manually check for a software update however, yet I haven't received a notification for it, will it still say there's an update available?

Also, when Verizon Wireless rolled out the Droid 2.1 update, they were scheduled to update 1000 phones on the first day, wait on the second day (presumably to make sure that it wasn't a disaster), and then start updating 200,000 phones a day starting on day three. Since they haven't announced any of this officially, we do not know, but it's very possible they are doing the same thing with the Eris.

So since the Rom and Radio #'s are the same as the 2.1 v3 leak does that mean that the OTA update is the same version of the v3 leak we're running?

*If you do call, let me know and I'll add your name to the list of people that have confirmed with a rep over the phone.*

for whatever its worth, i had my girlfriend call verizon for me and put it on speaker phone (i was eating dinner). the rep confirmed that the update WILL start tomorrow, and will continue to roll out til the END OF MAY. what that really means, idk?

Holy Batdate Batman....it looks like they're really gonna do it.....

Hmm.. I've kinda got my hopes up.
If we got OTA, I'll finally be able to return my phone because of the trackball problem.

You, too, huh? That's the whole reason I've been waiting on this. My trackball woes started about 4 or 5 months ago. Kind of a pain, isn't it?
I'm also sorta hoping the replacements don't have the upgrade yet....I suppose we'll see.

crazy, didnt think people used the trackball, ive had the eris for about 5 months now, and have maybe used the trackball 2 times.

Now i have to contemplate either waiting to see if I can get root with the recent post on here or if I should just OTA.

Just wondering (i have no clue about the dev's work I just thank them for doing it) do you think once we get the OTA will a root exploit more than likely be found or should i take my chances and wait?

Installed MyBackup and backed up everything on everybody's Eris including the SD card to online storage. I'm ready! I think? One phone is root 2.1v? the other is plain 1.5. I may leave the root 2.1 turned off until I see what the update does to the other one. Or does it matter if I leave it on or not?

The only thing I use the trackball for is when typing and I have to go back and change a letter... instead of trying to tap on the spot, or erase everything up to that point, just use the track ball to bring the cursor where you want it.

As others have said, I am concerned about those (including myself) with leaked versions.

Secondly, is it just coincidence that the Eris gets updated at the end of its life?

About waiting for root for 2.1... Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm under the impression that the rooted 1.5 was actually provided by HTC - or someone that had inside access. If that's the case, then I would expect the same to occur with this official update.

I'll be updating from 2.1.3 when, and if, I get the OTA. I waited until v3 to install the leak... should have held out a little longer!

No, you wanted 2.1 and now you have it. You are in good company, we'll all get the OTA even if we have to flash it.

With the Moto Droid, there was a file posted to get the official OTA without having to wait for it. I suspect that the same will happen for the Eris. So, for those who are impatient, you will likely get your copy within a couple of days. The update doesn't say anything about pdcphones.com hosting the file but the last two updates have been hosted there. Will be nice if they do because that means you know that you are getting a reliable and official update.
