2.1 OTA Beginning 5/11/2010

The way I understand it, using *#*#checkin#*#* is a method to force your phone initiate checking for system updates. It's possible I am mistaken; however.

I just did a *#*#checkin#*#* for the 4th time today. This was the first time that it told me I had updates...for apps only though. At least something happened beyond "success".

I noticed they removed some of those "enhancements" which probably means we are running the same version as the OTA that is being sent out. Maybe that is why we may not get the OTA

I may be wrong, but there was never an app called "gallery" on my eris. It was just called "photos" the update PDF does mention Gallery as an app.

Just did *#*#Checkin#*#* ... said "Updates Available!" ..... But it was only a google maps update..

What is this magical string of characters? Do I just type in all those characters to the dialer and make a call or what?

EDIT: nevermind, you just type that into the dialer and it checks for something. it says success but didn't actually do anthing. Does this just check for app updates?

From the XDA site:

So starting today and over the next 2 weeks customers are going to be getting the update according to @VZWSupport on twitter

I just did *#*#2432546#*#* and my phone turned into an Incredible. Craziest thing I've ever seen. :D

/me gets the fire extinguisher, just in case
